Funny thing about "gain" antennae.. as you add more "gain", it reduces the amount of signal you'll get other than 90* from the way the antenna is pointed.

picture your antenna perfectly vertical. A regular 'ol antenna has a pattern that looks much like a donut from the side. receives from above, below, to the sides, equally well.

As you get into gain antennae, that donut flattens out, and it becomes more picky about how it's aimed. On your truck, as the antenna moves around in the wind, this can cause reception fading in and out...

a top-load fiberglass unit will do you best if you're not willing to mount it on the roof... Wilson make goond antennas.

Also those "10 mete raidos" the really powerfull ones. Galaxy makes one I like the dx95t. Does that work on whatever frequency or channel or whatever CB's run on? I know it has a lot more power and its for like export use only. I'd like to get one of those if I can use it as a cb other wise a galaxy 959 or 979. not sure yet.

I have the one in my sig.

Yes, it's one of them "export only" radios that has been "tuned" to use the CB freqs as well.
Also tuned up the power a bit.
Can't remember where I got it, was an internet site, and it was tuned before they shipped it.

I like it, bit big and bulky, but performs very well.

I got a question now...

What's the point in upping the power of your radio so your transmitting say 15 miles instead of the normal 3 to 5 or so...?

I figure if your transmitting that far and I hear you, when I respond, your probably not going to hear me so what's the point? Or your going to step all over everyone else...

So... "what's the point?" is my question!

99% of the big rigs are also running hot, so they'll be able to talk to you just fine.

Close quarters talkin' to a friend, you just turn the power down a bit (Galaxys can do this)

If yours is a quad cab, that sounds like a fair trade

(nope, just checked your album, I need more room than a single cab)

Me too. I want a quad for a 12v pizza oven and fridge I found. Maybe I shoulda just bought a regular big rig. I found a place, http://www.pepperelectronics.com has the glaxay 10m raidos and can tune them for CB.

Also besieds the truckers having juiced up radios, my friend and I will get the same ones so we can always talk to each other. I might need an amp though depending on how far I roam. On his galaxy 959 he got some guy in FL from his driveway in PA.
