Oh..duh... Mine's 2001, so I shouldn't need to drill anything. Thanks! ...going out to do it now....

UPDATE since NOVEMBER:
So I got the 4-inch pipe and muffler installed just fine--no probs...frankly was pretty proud of myself....

So today (20 Feb) I realized my Texas State Inspection sticker was a month over due, so I took it to one of the shops here in town. The kid came out, drove it around the parking lot, then into the inspection bay. He then bent down and looked underneath in a few places (I figured he was admiring my workmanship). Then he told me: "Sir, the State of Texas requires a catylitic converter on diesel trucks." (duh! I guess I overlooked that part of the installation...) That must have been the extra "muffler-looking-like" thing on the old system... .. the kid also told me my emergency brake needed some adjustment and one windshield wiper had a tear in it....dang!

So, I took the truck to another shop down the road...and it passed. (go figure)... But I guess I should probably go looking for a 4-in cat.converter somewhere....

Your '01.5 didn't come with a cat so that is strange that they would all of the sudden require cats on vehicles that weren't even built from the factory with them. 2nd gen 24 valves had a muffler and a resonator but no cat converter
