Goerend Transmission Questions

Well I think its time to get rid of the not so good stock transmission which is not having too good of luck. Its had 2 rebuilds under warrenty and now its to the point where i'm sick of the truck being down and soon going to drop the money for a new one as I think this one probably doesn't have too much left in her.

After doing a lot of calling around and warrenties I think I am going to go with a Goerend Transmission but was wondering which you guys prefer to do as far as Torque Converters go. I'm not sure if I want to go with the single disk or the triple. I was talking to Dave & he said for what I want to do I could use either one.

Right now all I have done to my truck is a Smarty & possibly in the future a set of injectors. I don't tow a lot and when I do its usually (4) 4-Wheelers when a bunch of us go out riding. The truck is used as a daily driver and gets about 50 miles a day with commuting to work.

So just looking for some feedback on what you guys would do...

Thanks, Engcogod

You might want to get a moderator to switch this thread over to the performance and accessories forum for more exposure to this topic.

And HEY!!.....How did you get a Smarty already?!?!?

How do you like it?

The Smarty is great but also uncovered that my tranny is on its way out... And so far Goerend has the best price & warrenty for me...

I'd spend the money on the triple disk. I'd hate to have to do it twice becuase I added more power in the future, or fried the single disk on a hard launch.

Get the triple disk, for future bombs (and there will be) there will be no wondering if the tranny will hold up.

I'm no tranny guru... but there appear to be misconceptions about needing a triple disk for higher HP.
The reason I say this is DTT has used nothing but Single Disk TC's for years and theirs holds over 800 HP (personally saw one dyno at 870 hp)!

Maybe Dave's Single is only built for a certain HP level (no knock intended). That's fine if that's the way he has designed it.
I see nothing inheritantly stronger in a triple disk design...unless it's just built stronger. Anyone know?

I believe that DTT runs singles because they run such high pressures. Dave's don't run as high so the triple disk makes up for it. Go with the triple disk. You won't regret it, especially next year when you add more bombs. And don't tell yourself you won't add more bombs...................

Okay, for an old gear head like me, what is the best choice? I'll maybe bomb alittle more like a bigger box or something, I'll upgrade the VP-55 to a hot rod when she goes (knock on wood). I want to get more HP to the ground.

What all do you suggest?

I have about 60K or so on one of Dave's triple disc TC's without so much as a hiccup. Can't go wrong with a lifetime warrenty.....and we all know Dave's good for it.

No! Almost no one has broken one in recent years. DTT has been rumored to be cancelling the Intermediate shaft from inventory.

I would not bother....and didn't.

At 550 hp I would want a 5 or 6 third gear clutch pack.... with billet piston and a Billet Hub. Also a metal accumulator piston (stock is plastic). I suspect Dave does these when you tell him the HP level you seek.... but worth asking.

When I got mine I really had no idea what I wanted or needed. I just talked over my situation and went with Dave's recommendations. I tend to be fairly hard on equipment just doing my daily driving and I was planning on additional BOMBs so I knew I wanted the strongest I could get. I got the triple disk, exhaust brake rated T/C (forget the percents or stator angle or whatever) but haven't had any problems. I only have about 15-18,000 miles on the trans/TC but I love it. I know he did some additional upgrades to the transmission internals too. I think there were either chromemoly or billet parts listed on my invoice? And something about using later model hard parts in a 1995 case for improved durability. I'm sure either way you go you'll be pleased.

Goerends

Im a dealer for Daves transmissions, ill tell you from personal experience. The man is an absolute transmission genius. Before i became a dealer for him and was just trying to get my truck going again after i broke an input shaft. Dave sent me a brand new tripple disk converter assuming that my input shaft had broke off inside of his converter. All I payed was shipping!!! When i got the tranny apart my shaft had broke at the other end and didnt break off in the converter. Dave told me to go ahead and put in the new one since i already had it and then he sent me the kit to modify my valve body to get lock-up in all forward gears. Hands down id recomend him to anybody.
