Glasspack muffler on a CTD???

Just finished a search for info, but didn't find a definate answer. I thought glasspacks were a no-no cause of how much soot these things put out. I just want a cheaper (under $50) muffler that doesnt raise the EGTs too bad. Its straight piped now, but I thinks its a little too loud.

The high exhaust temperatures of a diesel engine will quickly burn the fiberglass out of a glass pack muffer leaving you with nothing but a can. You need to find a muffler that uses steel or stainless steel baffles instead of fiberglass packing. Many inexpensive mufflers are out there especially if you are just looking for something to "tone it down a little". Check out summitracing.com and look at their brand or a dynomax. I'm sure others will tell you what they use also.

Did you remove your resonator? I just took off my muffler today and left the resonator and the truck sounds great not to loud and not to quiet! 8) 8) 8)

I think this should be right up your alley.

A fellow DTR member put one on his truck about a month ago and was very happy. Cheap, too.

Re:Glasspack muffler on a CTD???

I installed a glasspack last summer and I was very happy with the results. I was running a straight pipe and had the drone at about 1850 rpm. I put a 15" long 3" diameter glasspack on and guess what...........my egt went DOWN!!! It dropped by about 50 to 75 degrees on the same road and conditions. Pulling the highest that I have seen the pyro was 1200 degrees and that was at 34 psi boost. It still has a real "healthy" sound without the drone. It really sounds good to me when it is pulling.
