Getting the itch

Getting the itch
As one can tell from my signature, I'm running a pretty tame setup on my truck. I like the Edge EZ but I'm getting the itch to get a bit more grin factor out of this thing. Here is my dilema. I'm old fashioned and really like my analog gauges. I don't care for the digital readouts on the other modules. What would you guys recommend for a good upgrade in torque and horsepower without having to go "digital".

Edge drag or drag comp has been the choice of most for years now. There's also the smarty which kicks the wow factor way up with a decent set of injectors! The edge is around 120 RWHP while the Smarty is only around 65 rwhp, it mainly changes the way the truck fuels. Quadzilla makes some great products for the vp trucks as well. Are you going to be towing with the truck?

Not to knock analog gauges, as I like them as well, or talk you out of keeping them...but you can keep the gauges and still install Edge J/A or ADR the advantage is you can set your warnings/safeguards and the monitor will warn you WITHOUT you having to stare at your analog gauges. and it will safeguard your truck even if you have your foot to the floor. The monitor (edge) is pretty small and does not take up any room, it can be mounted out of sight or on the dash, .. I orginally had both analog and the monitor, after a week or two I got rid of the analog, mostly because I never looked at them any more, and the readings between the two were so close it was not funny.
I honestly believe the advantages of the J/A or Adr far out weigh the Comp/gauges combination
something to think about

Thanks for the input. I appreciate all of you taking the time. As for towing; I occasionally pull a trailer with four or five mules. I take care of this thing as it has to last me for a while. I don't intend to hot rod around like a teenager. The horse power figures are impressive but I'm more motivated by "torque" numbers as this is what a diesel is all about. Thanks again

Maybe so, but it's also one of the worst boxes on the market for VP-44 pump shutter. EGT's also become a major issue while towing with this box. You'll also be needing to think about clutch / tranny upgrade and eventually a charger upgrade (or replacement) with the TST. Sometimes the biggest isnt the best.

Never had a bit of pump shudder with the TST Comp. Why are EGT's any different than any other box. TST box can be turned down like any other set up. If running the remote with pyro, max EGT can be set and it will defuel when it hits that number. A lot less problems then the Adrenaline.

For sure alot less then the adrenaline! I'm not saying anything bad about the TST guys, I love the box. I'm just saying more care needs to be taken when running a box that fuels that hard. Even IF max egt is set. Just like the edge boxes, Loose pyro wires or a failed probe will sometimes allow the box to continue to fuel! Just saying pro's and con's both!

I'd say get the Smarty and stack it with the EZ. You'll love it, then when the HP bug really bits you then get a Comp to stack with the Smarty. That's after the new clutch.

Ok Mr. Scottsjeeprolet, you have my attention about this stacking deal with the Smarty. I've often read about "stacking" but never really looked into it. I assume you are plugging two components together. Is Smarty a brand name? If so, which model? Another gentleman suggested other injectors with this combo? Is this necessary? More info would be great. Thanks

As for the gauges, I still have my analog boost and egt but never use the egt one. It will be for sale on here after I take it out this weekend.
Only reason Im keeping the boost gauge is cause Ive read that boost is more of an estimate with the juice... however ive never seen more then a 2 lbs dif between the two boost readings and all the other gauges are spot on so I keep my eyes on the attitude the most.
Over all I am a huge edge fan because of the power, ease of use, and safety features.
Injecters are another option. Some F1 Mach 1.6's would prob fit what your lookin for.
Smarty is the programmer name. You download a dif program into the ecm that will run with the EZ plugged in. Smarty is made by MADS Electronics. And it is catagorized by year of the truck. http://www.madselectronics.com/
Hope this helps.
