Gettin' my 2500 CTD 4x4 "Up Thar"!
I am the proud owner of a 2002, 2500 CTD 4x4, LWB Quad Cab. I live in the Inland North West and just love taking it way up in the logging trails in the mountains. The CTD just loves the high altitude. My question.......I called a local shop about a 3"-6" suspension lift....they said that because I have the CTD, I cannot get a lift because of the weight. They said I could get a leveling kit of 2" on the front which I probably will. Does anyone know if the former is true????? Can I get a suspension lift????? Can anyone tell me about the leveling kit???? Pros/Cons?????? I just want to get my dodge "Up Thar"!!!!!!

Thanks,
Tom

Does this answer your question?

Modified Skyjacker 4 1/2 inch lift. (local shop that customizes readily available lifts, but you could go with a straight skyjacker, no problem)
I had a 2 inch leveling kit, but it wasn't enough to clear my tires, so I went higher.

phox

There is a guy down the road from work that has at least a 7 inch suspension lift on his CTD.

That was a little too much for my tastes, I still want to be able to take it off road without flipping over or anything.

With the 4.5, I can easily clear my 315's, and should be able to put 36"s on there no problem.

phox

Oh, and P.S.

Your 2002 CTD is actually a 2nd gen truck, only the 2002 1500's are 3rd generation.

Perhaps a Moderator can move this into the proper forum.

phox

Your local shop is a little bit right.

Go above 4 inches, and you're going to be taking risks in many off-road situations because of the weight of the CTD on top of that Dana "wimpy 60" axle, and the high center of gravity. I saw somebody take his up to 8 inches. He drove it for a while, and then took it down to four. It's a much better truck on the logging roads around here now.

ascraeus

Yeah, that's right. "Wimpy 60"! ;D
The disconnect version of the Dana 60 used as the front axle in Dodge 4x4's since 1994 uses 1.31 inch 30 spline inner shafts. The heavier D60 used for rear axle applications uses 35 spline shafts and is stronger. The "wimpy" can be upgraded to a real D60 with a few parts. The American Axle 9.25 used in the '03 models is slightly stronger than the wimpy 60, and slightly less strong than the standard D60, with 1.37 inch 33 spline inner shafts. There's your better axle.
So there.

Ascraeus! ya ur talkin about the disconnect in the newer style trucks! i will agree with that the disconnected version is not as good!! but the older style 60 is still a great axle in my opionion! i would rather have lock in lock outs on my new truck then the dissconnect crap thats on there now!
