Gets 31 mpg
my little 4cilinder nissan
There is this one guy who buys and sells ONLY Dodge Cummins. currently he has 18 trucks. Often he takes off the aftermarket stuff and sells it to me.
Now he offered me an "extra Overdrive" thats how he called it, he has no clue, what it is, just that it behind the current tranny on one of his trucks he bought on ebay, a Red 4x4 from Abeline.
what is such a unit worth? where can i find a price to see if i should buy it.
Oh yeah back to the thread title, he came all the way from Dallas to his house, with 1 tank of fuel, thats 850 miles, when he turned into his driveway, the light just came on... when driving around 70 mph RPM's are at 1500 rpm

extra overdrive is a gear vendors style unit. replaces the tailshaft on the transfer case, only works in 2wd(since it only feeds the rear driveshaft) usually has a planetary gear set that lowers output speed I think 22%. gives you the ability to split gears. They cost over $2k new. do a search for gear vendor

AND... I believe all who have them claim very little, if any, mileage increase.
IMO, only possible reason for wanting one, with an auto, would be if you have 4.10 rear end. With the 3.54 gears, your already at .68 ratio in OD.
But with 21 diesels you probably have something it will be good on 21??????????
