Genos Dash Cover Installed

Genos Dash Cover Installed
Well I got around to installing my dash top from Genos (the plastic molded uint that goes over the stock). Firts I cleaned up my current dash using an ammonia cleaner per Genos instructions. Then I used a plastic epoxy to fill all of the cracks that started me on this venture in the first place. I then proceeded to prep the cover roughing up the backside where the silicone stuff will go.
I drilled the holes in the back to match where the current holes are located.
I then proceeded to place the silicone around the outer edges of the cover and aorund the openings (vents).
I placed the dash top over the old and lightly screwed in the screw at the back. I started placing heavy books etc... on the top per the instructions to seat the silicone. Ok top looks decent...
I started going around the dash and began noticing how truly horribly this this really fit the sides and 'detail' areas The areas to the left and right of the airbag just plain dont work. They overlap and are actually poking out, they don't lay flush. On the driver side (where the door closes) I have two fitting options either pull the cover back so that the black bezel will go back creating a large bubble on the side or seating the bubble and not be able to put my bezel back in place
Needless to say I am extremely unhappy with this product and wouldn't recommend... Save your $150 for either a factory dash replacement and add te dash to your 100k maintenence schedule or buy a carpet thingy on top
I will try to modify or live with the results, I understand that these dashes expand and contract but I never thought it would be this bad... I may have to cut my losses and go factory myself!!
Rant over.

So how much is a factory dash? It seems that this would involve basically tearing the whole dash apart! same with my truck though Ive noticed a small 1inch crack developing from one of the defrost vents. I just threw a cloth dash mat on there and called it good.

factory dash tops are in the 5 to 600 range, rediculous... that one inch crack will be many front to back crack by ext summer... dont get me wrong the genos top looks better than my cracks and after many hours of triming fitting and expoxying i will get it to look good. im just a stickler for details...

I was also quoted in the $500 range, so opted for the Genos Dashtop. I still have not installed it, but probably will soon. I have nothing to loose. I don't have much dash left, the heat has really gotten to it.
Had I known some of you guys are being quoted MUCH less for OEM, I would have done that when I did my evaporator last year. It's not hard to drop the dash. I may end up doing it in the long run.
I had a Volvo when I started driving that I bough something to a Dashtop, but it fit really well. I have dropped in my Dashtop for the Ram and it looks like it is going to take a lot of trimming to get it to fit decent.

wow
Quoted you 5-600 bucks! I got mine for 194.00 from dealer like another poster mentioned.
And the install is not that bad, took two of us about 2 hours start to finish using the dash tip out procedure.

I've heard this is a PITA of a job. I need to do the same and have been puting it off because of the feedback.

So how much is a factory dash?
I paid right at $160 for the part and spent 4 hours putting it in. It was easy to do, other than the defroster vents are screwed to the dash from underneath. My 14 yr old son held a mirror on the outside of the windshield and I put the screws I looking at the mirror. This took most of the 4 hours. If someone needed a new windshield, taking your bad one out would make it probably a 2 hour job.
I'd say this was any easy task compared to other things I've done on vehicles. Heck, it takes longer and is harder to change a headlight in my wifes Montero Sport than it did to change the dash in the Mean Green. Which I actually haven't done yet because it looks like the front fender has to come off. Not the liner, the outside painted body part.
