Gearing or more power?
Hey Guys, I pull around a 15k hydroseeder when the weather gets nice. My truck pulls it fine, but I recently just put on some 285-70-16 Revo's and expect my low end to suffer. I have a goerend triple disc t/c with a stall of 1800, so my low end torque suffers a little. especially from a stop or if i approach a steep incline with low speeds. The engine just doesn't have the chance to build up torque. I have 3.55 gears and would prefer to spend my money on more power than lower gears. Is this rational? I'm thinking much bigger injectors and maybe a hx-40 turbo or will the turbo worsen my low end torque?

Surprised the GSK didn't do it for you, did for me except it's on a manual.
I tow 26k of apples, before the GSK if I got caught having to stop on a hill that was it, couldn't get it rolling again. I was all set to get a gear splitter before doing the GSK, now no need.
I've also learned to avoid hills with stop signs...

Your best bet is to lower the gears if you find a problem and are properly timed. The issue with more power and heavy tow loads is the propensity to lift the head and stretch the headbolts due to increased combustion chamber pressure.
A HX40 will exacerbate your starting lag, it spools too slowly for heavy tow loads. Piers has a modified version that could help, but only if you also add the ATS exhaust manifold to boost the low end spool. Where the 40 pays off is with heavy load towing, once you are moving but can be a bear to get set up to start out properly.
The larger injectors would only help if you are not fueling enough today. That is best determined by your EGT and visable smoke.
I would think your best bet for boosting low end is to install the medium spring from TST's AFC kit, but only if your transmission can handle the additional torque at low line pressures. Most automatics cannot, unless they have revised clutch packs.

You should be in pretty good shape, but if you think you need more you might try some 181 or 191 DV's. Thats the main reason I want to put my 12cm housing back on. Talk about slow spooling, and smokey taking off with a load . It isnt anything I cant handle with the long skinny pedal, especially if I dont mind letting it smoke some, but the 12cm would just be much, much nicer. It's fine once I get rolling. Most the time I have a problem with breaking the tires loose once the turbo spools if I dont get out of the pedal some once I start getting boost .Its kinda fun actually .
