Gear Ratio ideas???

Gear Ratio ideas???
Alrighty guys, I'm debating on which gears to run?? I just put on my 38's this past weekend noticed a substantial power loss and now I'm wanting to re-gear it. I have 3.54's right now and I'm thinking about throwing in some 4.56's to try to get it back down to the ratio it had when it was bone stock. I think 4.10's still might be a little high especially when it comes to towing. I don't tow that much, but occasionally tow the rock crawler to the mountains or to Moab.......... I don't drive too much on the highway at 75mph or higher, it's mostly in town or under 65mph....
So what do you think......4.10's or 4.56's?

with 37" BFGs and 3.54 gears, I've calculated that 4.10 would take me back to stock "effective ratio". assuming stock tires are 32".
true 38" tires would be about an 18.5% change in the revolutions per mile compared to 32" tires. To get back to stock revs/mile you would need a 4.20 ratio. another way to say the same thing is that 4.56 gears would be comparable to having 3.84 gears with the stock tire size.
since lots of people have wished for 3.73 gears as a factory option, I'd say 4.56 would be better. especially if you tow. if you are empty 90% of the time, 4.10 would probably be better.
how's that for my $0.02 ??

That's kind of what I got with my calculations too........just wanted to make sure I wasn't smoking crazy weed!!! I'd be happy with somewhere between a final ratio between the 3.54's and the 4.10's

I also was going to go 4:56 in my truck. Got a new Dana 70 Powr-Lok, front carrier, and the gears.
Before I installed them, I found a killer deal on a Dana 70 out of a 02, disc brakes, with only 2K miles, (this was 2 years ago). Hey, you got to stop them to, and didn't want to do the Caddy caliper conversion.
Went to the bone yard that had the axle for sale, and they were just removing it at the time. Looked over at the Cummins engine on a crate and a stick bolted to it. Yea, it was a Dana 80!!!
I told the owner that it was an 80, not a 70. He looked at it and said it would be the same price he gave me for the 70. Well I knew that there was no 4:56 for an 80. Tough choice. It had 4:10 and a Trac-Lok. Couldn't pass it up.
So I got 4:10 with the 37's. Wasn't worth regearing for 4:30, and didn't want to go 4:88.
Now, I kinda wish I would have regeared lower.
Figured I would find a use for the 4:56 parts. Still sittin in the boxes.

Hey Brad, nice truck!
How's the D/C tires holding up? Are they an "E" rated tire? I've been looking at them for replacements if I don't make a million other changes first!

Thanks Galen.
They are D rated, but a higher weight load than the factory E.
I like them a lot better than the previous 37's I was running.
I had, back in 95, H1 Hummer tires. 37X12.50X16.5. Goodyear Wrangler GS-A.
Worse tire I ever owned. But that was the only tire that size back then.
The GS-A or the MT. I had every one at one time or another replaced.
So far out of round that they didn't have enough room for wheel weights.
Couldn't go on a wet road. And snow, allways in 4WD to move.
They did wear good though. Finally got tired of them and got the Cepeks.
Got 17" wheels. Only about 3K miles on them, but a much better tire.
They are siped the entire depth of the tread, not just 1/4 of the way.
Wet roads are not a problem. And snow, don't need 4WD to get out of my driveway. Great snow tires.
Only thing I haven't tried yet is towing in mud. I tow a tri-axle trailer with a backhoe.
Would usually get stuck with it at sites I had to drive into. Had to unload the backhoe and use it to get out. Haven't tried that yet.
In just mud, not towing anything, they are good also.
Yea, I'm ranting. But I had the other crap tires so long I forgot what good tires should be like.
Smooth on the highway to. Don't know about wear, but no cupping with 3K miles at all.
So far I would recommend them.
Sorry for the long post, bit for the cost of these tires, you don't want to change them out to often.
