Gauges (again)
I'm going to eventually get an Edge EZ Pulse and possibly new injectors in the future. There seems to be a lot of emphasis placed on the inportance of having a fuel pressure gauge. It seems to me if the pump goes bad, it just goes bad and the truck stops. Do I really need a pressure gauge to tell me that? Isn't that kind of like having a gauge to tell me that the fuel pump isn't working? Won't I know that already when it stops? Maybe I'm missing something. What other reason would I need to know what the fuel pressure is? It's just a lot of money for an isolated gauge and I don't want it if I don't need it.

Well, if you know that you're having fuel pressure problems, then you can do something about it and save your injection pump. That's unless you enjoy paying 3-5k for an injection pump from the dealer. Of course, they're cheaper from other sources, but why even pay 1300-1800 when you can pay less than 100 bucks?

The fuel pressure guage is for the lift pump.
The pump that supplies fuel to the injector pump.
If the relatively inexpensive lift pump isn't supplying enough fuel to the injector pump, it puts wear and tear on the much more expensive injector pump.
The guage lets you know in advance that the lift pump is dying, before you destroy the injector pump.

The lift pump and the injection pump. Like Phox just said, if you are having supply problems from the lift pump, it can eventually cause the injection pump to fail. Not a cheap proposition.

I still haven't been able to figure out what the problem is. I am going to drive over to Cummins next week to see if they can test it. They are going to check for leaks, priming problems, lift pump and injection pump problems. I hope they find out the issue, and lets hope it isn't the injection pump!!! hehehe.

Rattle Rattle, I am a classic example of why it's a good idea to have a FP gauge. I still don't have one, but will getting one soon, for the very reasons I explained. I want to make sure next time around that I don't have this problem.

So, is that readout at idle or WOT?
And, if WOT what are you doing driving and flashing at the same time. :

(ok, yes, I see the empty go pedal down there, so it must be at idle)
