I recently purchased 2001 3500 drw auto. I installed edge ez,K&N,4" magnaflow exhaust.Now thinking of gauges,local diesel performance shop wants $500 to $550 to install boost,egt,&trans temp or fuel pressure.What is more important trans temp or fuel pressure.Is this about the right price.How hard is it to install myself. I do tow a 30' Cardinal travel trailer.

My choice would definately be the Fuel Press guage. Even though you're only using the EZ, you could still get yourself stranded if you run your injection pump with low fuel press. You can easily add the trans temp later or in another location other then the three pod setup that your installer is doing for you. As far as doing it yourself, it's not too bad if you are slightly mechanically inclined and have a handfull of tools. You can find may threads on this site as to how and where many of us have installed the guages in different ways. What brand of guages are you putting in. Electrical or mechanical??

Get the fuel pressure gauge. You'll use it more than you think. Installing gauges is very simple. The hardest part is running the lines/wires. I would strongly suggest that you go with all mechanical gauges. I've done the whole electrical thing and they caused me nothing but problems.

BigBlue is right go mechanical, we always go with the Dipricol's for the Dodges they look "right" are very reliable and do have the mechanical fuel pressure you're after, if you have to "drop" a gauge drop the boost, but we have a number of mouning options by Auto Meter that will allow you to have all the gauges in different places etc. Call us if we can help.

Now is the time to decide where you "think you want to go...HP wise. If your SURE you will be happy staying with EZ and maybe just some bigger injectors later on, than you could do without the Boost Gauge. If there is ANY doubt in your mind that you could be infected by the "more, more, more...virus" do all four gauges up front.
Would definately want Trans Temp...due to towing.
Price sounds in line...but must be mechanical Fuel Pressure Gauge. Electrics just don't seem to last more than 6-12 months on diesels. Don't know why but do know ISSPRO tried to make one that would work and gave up trying. Good Luck!

I added to my three gauge pod, giving me 4 gauges. My plans were for Fuel PSI, boost/EGT, trans temp. Since my little fiasco with the oil PSI sending unit, I have also added an oil PSI gauge.The add-on cost $20, and took a little time to cut and shape. When I get the rest of the gauges in, I will do the rest of the trim work on it. Just an idea. I tried to post the picture, but was unable to. If you go to my photo gallery, you can see it.

I would go for the egt, fuel pressure and boost first. Transmission temp would be 4th on my list of priorities. I run synthetic tranny fluid in mine with a shift kit and do not have temp issues with mine while towing unless backing up for longer than normal periods.
