gauge wiring

2001 ram 2500 ctd. i have installed a fuel pressure gauge on the steering colume and want it to light up at nite when the lights are turned on. where is the best and easiest place to tap a wire for power? i went with a mech. gauge run from the bottom of the filter and works fine. 13 psi at idle,and about 10 psi at wot. thanks to all who helped with my questions!!!!! larry

on my 05 I just pulled the light switch.. using a test light I located the dimmer wire, bared it and soldered the guage light wire in there...

Guage lights dim with the dash lights..

You can grab the ash tray light circuit also. It is dimmed with the cluster lights. Take both the ground and the hot.

wire

thanks , i used the ashtray wire. i taped the hot wire at the ashtray and grounded at a spot under the panel below the steering wheel where there was already a ground. will not using the ground wire from the ashtray hurt or does it not matter? it seems to be working with what i did.

Ground doesn't matter, anywhere is fine.
