Gauge Pods
Hey Guys, I know this has been beat into the ground many times....BUT....
I don't want to run your typical A-Pillar Pods. I'm really looking to do something on the dash top. Something Easy to read and a glance running down the run. I've looked at the Dash Top mounts made by Autometer that bolt to the center bolt in the middle of the dash. Thats to far away for me.
What do you have? How do you like it? I'm tossing the idea around of 3, single gauge pods, on the dash, directly above the Radio area.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
Rick

i have the autometer dash top and ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. it is very easy to read at a glance. i also have the steering column pod.
the dash top pod is actually easier to read than the factory speedo, tach, etc . . . you don't even need to pull your eyes off the road.

Ramsport59,
I took some pics of my windshield dash pod
the pod is not actually installed, and no gauges, but you can see where it sits. I gave several views.
the pics have been submitted but are waiting for the administrator to load
I'll post when they're available but back to the garage for now

Thanks for the pics, I checked them all out. I still dont know what I want.
I like the autometer dash pod for the lack of obstruction of veiw.
I like pods up closer for me to see better. What does the bottom of the pod look like barngal? would it be something I could modify to work up closer to me?
Thanks
Rick

it would be difficult to modify it. rather, you would have to find a new way to secure it/mount it to the dash. at the rear underside of the pod (base of windshield), there is a tab which is a part of the structure of the pod itself. this tab goes below the base of the pod and has a (longer) screw going thru it to replace the middle screw on the dash at the base of the windshield.
it would be a time consuming process, but it could cetainly be done.
the 'tab' is actually a small portion of a larger piece of aluminum glued to the inside of the pod to give it some rigidity.
hopefully my words help, but i know a pic would tell you more . . .

You aren't wanting the pod that sits on the top of the dash, directly in your view?
Personally I like that this pod because it doesn't obstruct my view at all, and I have to turn my head less than I would to look in my right rear view mirror, talk to the person next to me or glance at the radio.
Maybe the top gauge mount would be more suitable to modify, since it must not use an existing screw to mount?
I will post a pic of the bottom of the mount...if you were able to mod it, you'd probably have to grind down part of the metal plate, but it would give some stability...I imagine you would just velcro it down anyways..

I honestly wouldnt mine having the gauges right on the front edge of the dash above the radio....
Here's something Glow Shift Makes I'm thinking about....I can place this almost anywhere....
Plus if I don't like it, I'm out $20 compared to 50$.....
Whatca think?

I have the windshield dash pod and love it. Out of the way, easily viewable and MUCH better that the pillar pod I had before. Plus the clipboard slides nicely between it and windshield...

Sorry, that came out wrong
what I meant to say was, if the windshield pod isn't doing it for you, aren't you wanting the pod that sits on top of the dash, directly in your view?
what like about the glowshift is that it looks like you could mount it somewhere between the top of the dash and the windshield, directly in your view, but no on top obstructing (i'm short for a truck driver )
I;m not sure you can drill straight down thru the dash though, depending on whatever is below where you choose to put it.
Looks like the glowshift is worth checking out, now its YOUR turn to post pics!
dont worry, we'll wait... maybe you'll beat me...thats sad, not funny
