Question Gauge Lights?

I've got enough wires running all over the place as it is and I have recently installed a second trans temp gauge (reading pan temps) and I wanted to just tap the ashtray light for the gauge (as opposed to adding another wire in the fuse panel). Is the wire simple to get too? Also, what color wire am I looking at tapping for the light? Hoping to do this tonight sometime, so fast responses appreciated!!

Thanks!!!!!

Tony

I just got it.

I believe he meant rheostated, meaning dimmable with the dash lights.

is it relatively easy to get too? Or is it one of those crawl in the truck upside down with your legs hangin' out the door and your head crammed up next to a light under the dash type of places?

Upside down with the driver's seat all the way back, your legs hangin' out the door, and your head crammed up next to the light... just did mine on Saturday. I traced the wire back from the light, and tapped into the orange wire for the hot feed.

I made the mistake of tapping the "other" wire for the gauge light ground, thinking it made sense to keep the hot and ground on the same circuit -- all I got was blown fuses. I had unplugged the ashtray light from the wiring harness since I didn't need it. Once I moved the ground to one of the dash lags the gauge lights seem to work OK. Can anyone explain why using the ground from the ashtray light would cause this?
