Garrett BHT3B Turbo?

Hello, maybe some of you recall me posting awhile back about hot my turbo is starting to go...sending oil into the intake, leaking around the boots, things like that. I have decided that I would like to get mine rebuilt or buy a new one. Up here in Ontario, there is a builder near me that charges 500-700 for a stock rebuild, or 800-1000 for upgraded rebuild. Now if you ask me this is darn expensive. So I was looking around and found the Garrett BHT3B at citydiesel for $625 US, which is about $670 CDN. I plan on adding more and more power as I go to the truck, so that it is a nice streetable truck. I would probably go for the 26mm housing so that I have more low end for the street obviously.

I am wondering though would this be a good choice for my truck? I know I am stock right now, but would there be any problem with running a turbo like this, buying a boost fooler maybe for now, and adding fuel later on?? I just don't want to have my turbo go being as a truck at my dads work went and it blew the engine...which i dont want to happen, lol.

Are there any cons to this turbo? Do I need an aftermarket exhaust manifold, downpipe, things like that? Any help is great!

Thanks

Craig

Oh ok, I got thinking when I was outside that it said it was good for a twin set up....so its probably too big yes, lol.

In that case, what are some good size turbo's and for generally cheap cost that would replace my stock HX35? I plan on getting around 400HP streetable for now, so what Turbo would be good for that. I would probably eventually go with twins down the road.

Thanks!

I would say an S300 or offshoot of some sort would put ya bout right where ya wanna be.

Search for High Tech Turbo just to get an idea, also check the classifieds and Piers.

a 62/12 HTT or Industrial Injection turbo would fit well and if you wanted to do twins later you could use the 62/12 for the top charger

If you are going to want and use either turbo in a twin application I would have them install larger wastegates, machine the exhaust housing, and use the small wastegate actuator. By ordering your turbo this way you won't need to send it back in the future.

Hmm, I was looking on HTT's website and could only find 60/12's...that sort of thing. What is the difference between a 60/12 and a 62/12? the 60/12's go for about $820 US so I might look into something like that, or the 62/12 which I can't find, lol. It also says that an adapter would be needed, what does the adapter do?

Or would a S300 be a better choice, or are they about the same in performance and cost?

Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure I get something that will do me good and so I can save up for one.

Thanks again Guys
