I put a BTH-3b under a GT3782R. It worked pretty good and the 3b is a cheap turbo for around $600. You can find all the fitting easy and save some $$$. I had an old PDR HX40/3B twins st-up. I just dumped the HX-40 and put in a garrett3782R. Its a easy swap and it was far cheaper than $6k. I have about 15000 miles on the new twin set-up. I paid $1600 for the garrett and got two turbo flanges made at a local machine shop. If you already have the garrett, either a S400 or BTH-3B would make a nice primary for it.

Your right that would be the cheaper way to go. But if im going to spend the money on a compound set up I might as well go all the way and have a true BB compound instead of one true BB turbo and have the big turbo be a standrd turbo. But it sounds like you do have a real nice set up.

So far everything is better than the HX-40. It improved the power band in the mid range. The turbine doesn't seem to choke as much as the Hx-40 did. It spools a lot faster than the HX-40. The top end is way stronger and my rear bumper isn't covered with soot any more. The only down side is that its more $$$ than the HX-40 and its harder on tires. I have spool-up that would be comparable to a HX-35 and way more stronger power band. You can pull 50 psi in seconds. I've only barked it a few times. The egt's are down 150 deg's from HX40/3b combo. Yes, the garrett twin set-up is the sweet deal, but at $6k, that tons of $$$. You could build mine for about half that. A garrett stage 3 on a S480 would be a nice street set-up.

Personally, I think you get a better bang/buck by only going with one BB turbo, and the other be a regular journal bearing.

For example, you could either do a stock charger over a BB primary, or a BB Garrett on top of a cheaper HT3b or S400 charger. Either would perform better than a typical setup, imo.

It's probably cheaper to go BB on top than on bottom, but going BB on bottom probably gives better overall performance.

Yes I am. It was not by choice. I had it put in when my IP took a crap when I was towing a big load stuck in the middle of noware. But it seems to be working fine.

Cool, just confirming. One day the samething might happen to me. If you want to save $$$, just go with the common journal bearing turbos i.e. BTH-3B or the S-400 stuff. At the end of the day, how often do you really push the primary. If you just drag racing/sled pulling, that's different, but most of us still drive the old girl for/to work. At $600 a piece, its easy to survive with a cheap primary turbo. Of course the more expensive primary would just spoil ya and put a big smile on your face on those WOT pulls.

Not meaning to hi-jack here... So your saying running a stock hx35 over a BB would be a better daily driver.?. If so, for a moderate street truck, which BB would you put on bottom of an auto?

This ? applies to you to Mike!
