Fueling system in a 12v? When to upgrade?
I never really read into the amount of fuel a P7100 can push without being starved...
Can anyone chime?

Mine seems to be doing great so far with the mods listed below. When i had the truck tore down i went ahead and put a new lift pump on it just to be sure that it was good. I ditched the over flow valve and installed an adjustable fuel pressure regulator so i can raise the pressure some. I set it to about 40psi at idle. Its working great so far and im flowing quite a bit of fuel.

I agree with what Rick said.
On my 1996 Dodge CTD 12 valve, I was literally "up against the wall" when I got over 600 H.P. My fuel pressure at WOT would pull down to below 15lbs.
At 700+ the F.P. at WOT would go down to 12 lbs.!! That was with JUST the stock Cummins 12 valve lift pump, stock fuel heater, lines etc.
According to experts, the P-7100 F.P. should never get below 20lbs at any time.
I have since had Scheid Diesel install the big 180GPH FASS and have eliminated the entire stock fuel system (stock lift pump. fuel heater/strainer, stock fuel lines) and am running -8 (1/2") line all the way from the fuel tank to the P-7100 fuel pump. I now see 50-55lbs+ almost all the time.
Hope this helps you some.

Hmm, Id read someplace that going overboard on an electric lift pump could make the pump burn up faster since its working harder. At 500hp I think rule of thumb is somewhere around 100gph.
What did Scheid say when they installed it? anything? Im curious since Im thinking about going with a FASS to cure my air problems.

I have never heard of what you are talking about?? The 180 GPH FASS is designed to run at about 50-55lbs. of pressure. There are ALOT of them out there running on trucks that have more H.P. than mine also and many of them have been in use for a long time. I know that FASS offers a 6 year unlimited warranty on their pumps and Dan McDonald @ FASS who goes by
"DieselDan" here on DTR has been a great representative and a big help to the DTR Members here. You might want to give him a call and speak to him about the specifics of your question.

I think Dan and the guys at DDP, have pumps that will work with the higher pressures.. They just started with the systems for the VP guys.. and have worked from there.. I've heard some rumors of some tractors running or trying some FASS systems... Drop Diesel Dan a PM...
