Fueling box

I have an HO-02 4x4, 4:10 gears and 315 tires.7000 miles on it.The best fuel milage I've got was 14 around town and , 11 pulling a 6000 # trailer on the highway. Will a box realy help the milage or is it just a fun thing.

Some have seen an increase of up to 2 mpg with a box.
That is, if you can keep your foot from enjoying the fun factor.

Is that 14mpg factoring in the bigger tires?

I have my speedo corrected for my 315's and with a 3.55 rear, the most I have seen is 14. (non-HO, auto tranny)
This is all hand figured, the overhead reports a 13.5 no matter what I do.

Hoping to get a box and possibly injectors next year.
Oh, I just turned 18,000 so it's almost broke in.

Re:Fueling box

Mudracer - I just installed the Edge Comp on my '99 plus a few other goodies (see my signature below) before I left for FL. pulling my 8000# boat. (Trans wire not connected yet)

This was the third trip to FL. with this boat and the first with the modifications listed.

Highway mileage towing before the upgrades averaged 16.5 mpg @70mph. After the upgrades my towing mileage dropped by 1mpg @70mph on the average, however the EdgeComp made a dramatic difference thru the full power range. Much better and to me the performance difference is worth sacrificing the 1mpg.

Around town towing mileage was not affected (loaded or empty) driving normally of course!

I was actually hoping to increase my towing mileage with the upgrades I chose, but after looking at your mileage I guess I'm not doing so bad.

Re:Fueling box

I didn't notice anything big in the milage on my 98. It sure made a difference in the big gear splits in the 5 speed. I'd do it again.

Re:Fueling box

I was expecting better mileage when I bought the truck, say 20 or so, but the performance is way better than I expected.

Re:Fueling box

I checked mine today 19.237 around town. And I do make smoke at times. All I can say is what ever you get that's what it is. No magic pill to get better. OverFueled

Re:Fueling box

I didn't notice a difference when I installed my EZ, I also didn't notice a difference (yet) with my DD2s. Around town is hard to gauge, but I usually get around 15.5-16.5 (hand figured). Hwy I get close to 20-- at least I did; I haven't taken a long trip since I put in the injectors.

Generally, 4.10 will only give you better mileage when towing heavy. Under most other circumstances, the 3.54s are better.

Remember all the general stuff, too: Heavier trucks get worse mileage, DRW gets worse mileage, 4x4 gets worse mileage, etc etc.

There's a lot of variance. A 2500 2wd std cab 5-speed might get as much as 24mpg on the hwy. A 3500 4wd QC Auto might get up to 10 mpg less!!

Also, keep in mind that your mileage numbers (even hand figured) aren't accurate to more than a whole mpg or so. There are so many variables as far as how level the truck sits, which side is higher, brand of fuel, etc that it's hard to get very accurate.

I buy my fuel from the same place, from teh same pump, parked in the same position, and always stop after the automatic cutoff to try and be consistent.

HOHN

Re:Fueling box

BTW-- Boxes aren't as known to increase mileage as the 275 RV injectors are. Almost everyone who puts them in reports some kind of mileage increase (or at least no loss).

You MIGHT gain some mileage from a box IF you can drive it the same way. That's VERY hard to do because your pedal starts to get real touchy. ESPECIALLY with a wire-tap box.

HOHN

Re:Fueling box

don't forget that the overhead console lies when you use a fueling box or injectors or non standard tires. it's calibrated to the stock ECM fueling instructions, standard injectors and stock tires.

Putting on a fueling box or injectors will always look better on the console readout 'cuz your're fueling more than it thinks you are. Its funny though, I put 285/75 tires on and that seemed to compensate for the mpg lies and now my overhead reads about right with EZ fueling

Re:Fueling box

My mileage has been improving steadily, too. Stock truck, I'm up to about 16000 miles now. At first, I was running at around 15 on my normal driving. By about 12000 miles it was up into the 16.5 range, and now I'm up in the high 17's, close to 18. That's mostly city type driving, too.
