which fuel pump

There are so many choices, and I ened to get one NOW. When i bump my starter, I don't hear that fuel pump going at all. When I first turn my car to run for a sec, I hear the pump for 1-2 seconds, then nothing. I am assuming this is bad. Now the questin is which pump do I get? I know... FASS is the only way to go, but honestly, I can't afford one of those right now. I thihnk I have my VP44 going out as well, so no fass. What do you guys know about the carter pump? How about Holly? And the Stock Cummins one???

What are the Part #'s from these pumps?

Thanks
Dima

FLATTY: After going to the bigger banjo bolts, my lift pump started doing the same thing. I'm going with a carter 4601hp on the frame rail by the fuel tank. Haven't decided on a pre-fuel filter yet, still looking.

I am ordering the eldelbrock #1792 (essex pump) pump, flows 160 gph and has 1/2 fittings then mount it on the frame to reduce vibrations

I let you know how it works I do no one guy running one past 40,000 km and it is $80 CAN dollars cheaper then a cummins lift pump

greenworks, how much for a eldebrock #1792? I just priced one, its twice the amount of the carter 4601hp and only put out 12psi.

the pump is rated for 20psi psi 160GPH free flow and can be adjusted they tell me (the orginal essex pump can anyway, just depends what crap old Vic puts on it), and I have seen them on jegs for 170 us. These are a very well built pump from essex. Scotty was going to carry them but he has to many things on the go to do so.

you can see the set screw to adjust pressure, I think this is far superior to a carter, bu that is my two cents, also look at my sig I need the fuel you may be don't need so much so that could way in also

here is the orginal that can go to 20psi

Flatty, you need a FP guage before you know if the pump is bad. It is suppose to shut off right before the truck starts, then come back on when it starts. High FP during starts causes hard starting.

Get a FP guage.

The Carther 4601hp is not worth it unless you use it as a pusher pump to feed your regular lift pump. I have one that I tried as a stand alone pump and its did not make over 12 psi ever.

I do have a FP gauge. The FP is fine for the mst part, but I did notice it dropping a bit lately.

As for when it works... It ONLY turns on for a sec, and then shuts off. While the truck is running, I have no idea if it is working. I thin, I am goign to get the Carter pump this week, and install it next week after memorial day. I will run it as close to the tank as possible.
