What is this needle valve everyone is talking about when runnig a fuel pressure gauge? I want to get a diffferent fuel pressure line made for the truck, but what kind of line shouldI have made? Any and all advice would be helpful.

Here's a pic of Shovelheads setup, as he has a 1999 as well, so it will work for you.



Needle valve dampens the pulsations from the injection pump,
and can be used as an emergency fuel shutoff to the guage should a leak develop.

NAPA has them, and so do most stores like Lowes or Home Depot. Just look back in their miscellaneous brass fittings and such (near kitchen and bath)

Where does a fella like me put one of these if they have an 01? Where is the hook up for the fuel pressure in the first place?

You're looking at the bottom of the fuel filter cannister.

I've got the banjo bolt... (Thanks again MLR1) but still trying to find a local source on the valve. Most of the local hardware store don't carry it.

Infidel also has a few left too... I might still get one there...

Waiting for a Boise trip soon. I know I might end up doing this over again for someone elses truck...

Moose10 ought to be collecting royalties from that picture. I used it to do my setup and have posted it several times myself in other threads here for an example of how to do it. I can barely get my hand in there to turn the needle valve. I have no idea how he got his camera in there

As for lines, what do you guys recommend. I have a brass shop o vefr here by work, an they have all the fittings I need for this setup.

I'm going to bring this one back to the top to ask what everyone's using to seal the threads on all these fittings. The pictures appear to show teflon tape. Is it regular teflon tape like I'd use on my toilet shut-off, or are you getting something special from somewhere? For example, I've seen yellow tape for use with natural gas.

The yellow tape is teflon that is rated for fuel use. Lots of people reccommend against the tape because if you have to dismantle a fitting, getting all the little bits of tape off the threads can be a headache (you want to remove them so they don't go downstream into the VP-44). I use Loctite PST 567 on my fittings. It is a liquid, not cheap, about $17 for 50 milli-liters at Grainger. Infidel also said he uses Permatex #2, much cheaper than the Loctite.

Looks like Grainger won't sell to me, since I'm an individual and not a business. I guess I'll be out driving around next weekend looking for one or the other of these, Loctite or Permatex...

I got mine through Graingers...Just set up an acct for my company...with me as contact. They said nothing when I used my personal credit card. My boss said thanks! we should have one of those. Guess it depends on if and where you work!

I work for a rather big company. They might frown on my putting their federal tax id into Grainger's web form so I can buy myself some Loctite.
