Fuel Pressure Gauge/ gauge questions
Its time to get my truck all gauged up. I am getting Isspro gauges. Pyro,Boost,Tranny temp. All on a the A-pillar
How important is a fuel pressure gauge? I plan on bombing to no tomorrow someday. Does it need to be watched regularly? I thought i herd of a guy putting it under his hood, can you do this.
And how important is a tranny temp on a 6 speed?
I would like to keep all the gauges on the A-pillar and only have room for three, unless i make a 4 gauge pod which isnt a big deal,it would be smooth looking, but i would like to keep it looking stock and dont know how i could get it textured looking. Any ideas????
Thanks for the help

A tranny guage on a 6 speed isnt needed. FP for a 24V is the most important guage you can have (bombed or stock). A fuel pressure guage will save you from having to replace the injector pump prematurely. Im sure others here will agree with me.
Also, there is no reason to put a fp guage under the hood. Fuel pressure at idle means nothing. You need to see the pressure at cruise and wide open throttle (WOT)

For the second gen, 98.5 to 2002, if you get NO OTHER gauges, get a fuel pressure gauge, unless you have plenty of money for a new injector pump.
The problem is that in many cases the lift pump going bad does not stop the engine, as the injector pump does have a little bit of suction. Unfortunately the extra fuel passing through the VP44 lubricates and cools it. If you have no extra fuel going through it you slowly cook the injector pump.
In my opinion, EGT would be the next most valuable gauge, as you can tell when the truck has cooled down enough before shutting down, and if you bomb it, you can tell when your EGTs are getting too high.
Boost gauge is needed when you get up in the HP numbers enough then you need to make sure you don't pop the head gasket with boost. It also helps for tuning/troubleshooting performance issues.

These guys are all correct. Must have Fuel Pressure EGT and Boost. But if you use Westech gauges instead of Isspro, you can get dual guages and have as meny as 5 in a 3 pod piller. I have a Dual Boost/EGt gauge and a Dual Temp guage and a single fuel pressure gauge. Total of 5. The temp gauges are for my Auto Tranny and Eng.Oil temp. You could use yours for Eng Oil and Rear end if you wanted or do tranny too. Westech gauges are available through Genos Garage. http://www.genosgarage.com/ Just a thought. Betty

They have photos of the combo gauges. This one is the Boost and EGT combo. The temp gauge looks just like it but both sides are alike and you can use them for just about any application. Westech is a very high quality gauge used in Aircraft applications, so they are very accurate too. I will see if I can figure out how to get a photo of my A piller on here later. Betty
