fuel pressure gauge
Looking at installing a fuel pressure gauge, been doing a little research and have found companies offering gauges set up for diesels and then just the regular gauges from auto meter, etc. Is it worth paying the extra for the full setup, or can i save money by just getting the regular stuff. Where is the best place to tap into the system at??? Thanks for all your help.

When I was installing gauges a couple of years ago there was a problem with the diesel fuel giving the mechanical gauges trouble. So much so that some gauge companies were saying that their mechanical gauges are not for diesel applications. The other options was to use an isolator with a mechanical gauge or an electric FP gauge. This doesnt mean all the gauge manufactures had this problem either. I tried mechanical first but wasnt happy with how hard it was to get the fuel line into the cab then after a few days I thought to my self, If this thing leaks I am going to have a HUGE mess on my hands, let alone the saftey factor. So I started to research what was out there. Thats when I was pointed toward the Dakota electric digital fuel pressure gauge. I love it! I reads as accurate as the mechanical I had and no worry of leaks. It all personal preference.

JAR,
You're going to hear from every type of setup with that question.
Lot of the guys like a post filter tap, some pre, others both to get the pressure drop and see exactly what the filter is doing.
All a matter of preference as KATOOM says. Personally, I went post filter with an Isspro mechanical and isolator kit. (hotroddiesel.ca) Nice to have the kit, all inclusive quality parts. The job was a no-brainer.
Careful with the autometer offering, not to dis a great product. Last I checked they only offered 2 ranges 0-15 and 0-100 psi. Not ideal for this setup.
That may have changed, again all a matter of personal taste.
You're doing the right thing though, get a gauge and get it soon.

I'm running an Isspro mechanical mounted on the dash with no isolator.
coming up on 3 years without a single drip.
Use quality components, and you'll only have to do the job one time.

I have the Autometer 0-15 gauge, works fine as long as you have the stock lift pump set-up, mine with a new LP gets to about 14 psi at idle, a 0-30 would be a lot better, but I got a deal on all 3. And I used -4 push-lok fuel line to it, no leaks like the cheap plastic tubing, a real PITA to get it to the A-Pillar!!! I have it in the Banjo on the inlet of the VP-44, you see what the pump sees.

The two ports on the top of the '99 filter housing are for pre & post filter.
Check my gallery, mine is set up for post filter readings.
