Fuel pressure gauge on an 01

Trying to figure out the best location and methon to hook up my fuel preasure gauge on my 01. I would like to put it after the fuel filter. I have searched, but have not come up with anything for an 01. What kind of fittings are needed? Any help would be great.

Use a tapped banjo bolt off of the bottom of the fuel filter.

You also could use a banjo bolt right on the injection pump line, which will allow you to read the pressure right at the pump. We like to suggest installation there to insure your getting the correct fuel pressure to the pump after the fuel filter.

On my truck its installed that way and I can tell when to change the fuel filter just due to the pressure dropping.

What I did on my 01 was take out the schrader valve under the black cap and hooked my guage up there. I used a standerd SS braided line and pipe thread sealent. In the two years I had it hooked up that way it never leaked.

Using the tapped banjo bolt on the bottom of the fuel filter cannister on the '01 is the other end of the same line you're suggesting. It is after the fuel filter (like you said) and will read the same as the connection you're suggesting.

I think you can get them from Geno's.

I used a schrader fitting from my fuel psi test kit. Took the hose to a shop that makes hoses and had that end crimped on a piece of 5ft line and a push lock end that fit my gauge on the other. Mounted the gauge on the steering column.....and my 90K ORIGINAL lift pump is just fine.

'Might want to consider adding a needle valve to smooth out the pulses, and
many don't like the idea of running diesel fuel into the cab so they use an
diaphragm-isolator between the gage and fitting.

Yes it is the other end of the line we suggest, but you get the reading AT the pump which is what will fail if the pressure gets too low. It can eliminate all the guess work as to where the problem is, knowing that its ok at the pump, after the fuel filter and lines.

Knowing the pressure is good at the pump is the peace of mind that our customers enjoy, but there are obvious several ways to make the connection.

I dont see much difference between the bottom of the fuel filter and the inlet of the VP-44.

The bottom of the filter and the VP are about 12 inches apart if you loose psi at the bottom of the filter you will loose it at the VP. No difference.

I have added a fuel gauge to my '01' by using a banjo bolt on the bottom of the fuel filter and used an isolater and then mounted my gauge down by the four wheel drive shifter. I have some pics in my gallery if interested. One pic of gauge shows the light wire not hooked up but it's all done now and looks great. I tapped into the ash tray light for the power.

60 bucks for a place to fit your gauge??? Look at where the line goes into the VP. There is a test port right there.
