Fuel plate question.
I bought my injection pump used and was told when I did that it had a custom ground fuel plate. I haven't personally taken it out to look at it, or see if its just the stock one adjusted forward. What I do know is that the truck makes about 40psi of boost, but has wicked EGT's. If I stay on in long it climbs like lightning past 1500. Within a few seconds even.
Another thread about the 3k springs convinced me that might be a good thing to get, but I'm sure even when I did that I could never see 2800rpms because I couldn't hold the pedal down that long. The truck runs great, puts out loads of power for about 10 seconds, but I can't keep on it that long for fear of melting something. So while I'm tinkering with the springs, I'm thinking since I've heard so many people rave about their #10 plate I'd pick one of those up and see if that won't help lower the EGT's. But I don't want to lose any power, obviously. I do plan on getting the delivery valves done sometime soon, within a couple months, so I wonder how it would react to that. I do have the 96 215hp pump. I'm just looking for a way to lower the EGTS and get some more usable power out of it. I don't even like pulls with it, just a few seconds too long in the high end of the pyro for my comfort.
Take a look at my signature for the mods to my truck. Any thoughts on how a #10 might affect it? I know its difficult not knowing what plate it has now, but in my mind a "custom ground" plate shouldn't be burning that hot should it?

Which turbo? I have an hx40, 14mm housing. If I buy another I might as well go twins The truck now has a 4" pipe w/ a straight through muffler to 5" stacks, that didn't affect anything as far as EGT's go. The plate I think I'm going to take out and take a picture of it sometime soon, hopefully someone may be able to identify it? Also see where it's at as far as full forward or what. Like I said I really don't want to lose power. I'm not sure what kind of hp other trucks are making but I can't imagine I'm over the limit where EGT's can stay civil. How's a #10 as far as EGT's go?

I sure like your reasoning.
Did the 40 ever have a 16 housing? No doubt that'd keep it cooler. There's lots of guys running an HX40-16, #10 & 370's with a 215 pump. That combo isn't too hot, so maybe it's the 14?

There are some special tools needed ... I haven't done it. I noticed that advancing took away the low end power & moved it to the high end. It might have an effect on egt too, didn't really look that close. Try searching on it & the tools will pop up.

Well looks like I'll be buying some more tools lol. Is there another setting that doesn't compromise low end as much? Or is kindof a shot in the dark just trial and error that gets you where you want to be?

You might do just that ... start @ 15.5, see what you think & then try something more.
I tow the 5'er & the loss of low end isn't an issue. No downside there. The up side is the loss of low end is MUCH easier on the tires.
