Forward is more fuel. You have to play with position a bit to find what works for you as far as EGTs, power, and not slipping the clutch (if that is an issue for you) Mine is about center of the pump, trying not to kill the stock clutch till I have the money for a clutch and tranny. Hopefully work picks back up soon. this winter has been brutal for me.

If I moved the plate back and afc forward it will it stop some of the smoke and lower the egt? I think I have to high of EGT. When I fuel it real hard for short distances the gage jumps to 1200 and that is emtpy.

1200* really not that high.
If you want to drop EGTs and smoke, pull the plate and AFC back, and tighten the Starwheel. It will take some tweaking to get things set the way you like. FWIW I have my plate roughly centered, the AFC forward, and the starwheel tightened enough to be able to pull my trailer without significant smoke.
