front bearings/hubs

The bearing in the front end are howling and looking at the price of the hub/bearing $209 it gonna be that way for a while. Does anyone know if those hubs can be pulled apart and greased? Also can a earlier model knuckle/hub/rotor be put on with the old style replaceable bearings and locking hubs?

If you can get those bearings for that price i would go ahead and stock up!!! I paid over three hundred for mine. To the best of my knowlege no they cannot be changed out with anything other than the oem replacement neoprene bearing.

Dynatrac makes a complete conversion kit to the "old" style with locking hubs/fixed spindle. It's the ultimate fix IMO. Spendy though at $1700 or so.

I was going to go with the EMS kit on mine last Dec. when my D/S bearing went out. I talked with the owner and they didn't have the kit available yet. They were waiting for the spindles to be shipped. It would've been another month or so to wait. I needed D/S bearing, frt pads and rotors. That would have been a nice payment on the manual hub conversion. Oh the kit for my truck was going to be around $12-1400. Some people don't think it is worth it, others try to argue about fuel mileage savings. To me it would have been well worth it.

I wouldn't let it go too long. The longer you wait the more $$$ it'll cost. Also the possibility of it coming completely apart or locking up on you on the interstate If you are able to do it yourself, 200 sounds pretty good. I think that's the lowest I've heard so far.

WOW that's the best price I have ever seen on a setup like that, I think I might have to go with the HD conversion kit later on

Another option is to retro-fit a Dana 60 Hi-pinion axle from a 90's (????) Ford F-350. LanceD did this and has had great luck with it and he pushes his hard with some very difficult offroading. You can find Dana 60's like I mentioned around $1200 IIRC.

Could always pick up a Ford high pinion d60 and swap in. Can be had cheaper than dynatrac or EMS if you're good at finding bargains.

DO NOT WAIT !!!!!!! That price is awesome, mine were $ 375.00.

I was driving my '99 dually on interstate at 75mph towing a light boat, my front left wheel hub came apart, snapped the shaft hub bolt off, and wheel came loose, truck went on both lanes several times with boat swinging like a gunny sack. Wheel held there by brake caliper, and I dragged to a stop in the middle of the median.
Stinky pants factor very high. I had to be towed and buy dealer full price to replace the bad hub. 1 month later the other side went out, this time I was at a stop sign, turn right and wheel fell off right there.

Change the bearings, trust me, they don't just go bad, they SEPARATE, and if you look at the big nut in the middle think it will hold.....it won't, it will strip threads off or snap shaft, there's too much force in there

No, you cannot service them, they are made that way so people doesn't mess with it. Let us know where you found them at $ 209.00 please.

No front ABS, NAPA had this price last month when I did mine. I DO wish, however, that I had just done manual hubs instead.

The $209 was from both NAPA and Autozone. I have ordered from Rock Auto, good service, good parts but you need to calc out the part + shipping. 90% of the time I found that it costs the same as buying locally and paying the tax. Planning on doing them this weekend just gotta get to work 2 more days....

I'll agree that some things are very expensive shipping wise. I priced a set of rotors and the shipping was all but $50.I just priced a set of unit bearing hubs from rockauto and they totaled only $323.78 + $16.52 shipping. Then 5% off is $16.19 which all but pays for the shippng.

New bearing, new rotors, new carbon/metallic pads, new Pro Comp 9000 shocks, new stabilizer, new track bar. Finally done. Unbolted the caliper, unscrewed the nut on the axle shaft and the rotor and 1/2 the hub landed on my feet. Bearings were either square of hex shaped, who says you can't take those hubs apart?
