Freeing available power?

Ok, just got receipt from Geno's that my gauges are on their way to me!

Once I get the gauges on, I was wanting to do as much to the engine to free up any available power ... what do yo suggest?

I am thinking about either an AFE intake or BHAF and a 4" exhaust for starters. I have read about the Aero Turbine muffler ... is it worth considering? Is there anything else I can do to free up the engine power?

My first upgrade, after that, will be injectors. I am considering running them without a box, so I was thinking I'd be safe with 275's, would this be correct? If I do end up using a box, it will be in the distant future and would be something mild. With just the injectors, and the engines power free, what would be the estimated horsepower/torque numbers. The rig is going to be used for towing approximately 12,000lbs.

after you do injectors, you should re-adjust your wastegate to open at a slightly higher pressure, the computer should adjust fuel curve for a mild increase in boost. it may de-fuel and have high temps if you have too much boost with no chip. i don't know for sure though you may be able to use a "boost fooler" or something like that, but i don't think you would want one on a tow rig.

I have herd of people having real good luck with the mach 1 injectors from formula 1. they are good for 65hp were as the 275s are good for about 40, I driven a truck with 275s and you could forget they were even there

Geez, here we go again! Can't we get through one thread without knocking my 53

Ok, so what you're saying is; if I change injectors I need a box? I was reading an article about ISB upgrades, written by Ted Jannetty, and there was no mention as to the necessity for a box with an injector upgrade. In fact, he stated the Diesel Dynamics 2 was as far as you could push it without making too much smoke. Am I missing something?

With the injector upgrade, will the boost and EGT's climb considerably while towing? That would be a concern.

Come on, with all the knowledge in here, nobody has any comment? Isn't their someone who wants to educate a new Cummins owner?

I was running an EZ and add RV275, I noticed the power instantly after installing the,, you will not not go back after you have them, but as stated above you might want something with a little more snap EDM 1.6 would be better choice in the long run with catcher ECM (software upgrade). For the Money RV275 are relatively the cheap option available. and said to improve mileage, as the design is better than stock.

I havent run the 275s but have run my DD Jammer IIs for close to a year now so I can say NO box is needed as I have played with it either way, with Comp off and on to see which way to get better milage. I personaly found the Comp on 1 (EZ mode) with the small injectors was the best for milage. Temps were never a problem and smoke was no problem with the Comp off or on at lower levels. I would recommend a injector change to anyone who wants more power but really think the two work better together.

I'm looking for high 2's (as close to 300 as possible) in the horsepower range and I'll be happy. Will the stock tranny be ok?

The stock tranny will barely handle a stock cummins. It may handle those mods for a while but it is a timebomb. Go for it, but be prepared for some tranny work in the future. In the mean time, keep your rpms up and try some synthetic trans. fluid to help it out.

Wilson, what did you mean regarding the rpms? I am normally driving around 1600-1900 rpms, is this ok?

Sorry, new to this!

I ran injectors (DD 2's) before adding a box and did not care for the smoke. Some form of boost fooler will give more air to match the added fuel.
Will your tranny handle 300 hp? ...Depends on your tranny! Most do. Lots of variation in stock trannys. That's why I prefer the box first...adjustable to prevent slipping. Just have to try it and see how hard you can push it before it starts groaning!

Keeping the RPM's up, on an auto, means don't lug your motor. Keep it out of overdrive below 50 mph, accelerate through the shifts when possible so it does not shift into the next gear below 1500-1600 rpm, and no heavy throttle when rpm's are below 1600. Not so hard to do with your 4.10.

I would keep the heavy throttle above 1800. The power drops off dramatically below 1800 on the near stock engine anyway.

I am sold on the Scotty intake and the EZ with 275's is a good combination.
