FP Gauge Installation w Vulcan kit
Got my Vulcan big line kit, DiProcol gauges, mechanical FP. The Vulcan has a tap point ready at the line between the FF & VP44. I need to buy the line to run between there & the gauge.
What size line do you use for this?
Where do you run the fuel line through the firewall?(Steering column?)
I plan to run a needle valve to reduce pulsing, no isolator.
Finally, how hard is it to drill the exhast manifold for the pyro? I have some Titanium bits, hope they will be hard enough.
Any other words of wisdom on the Vulcan install, other than have some containers ready to catch the diesel when you cut the line?
Also, to prime, seems to make sense to leave the line disconnected at the VP & bump it until you get fuel there, then hook er up. Any one else taken this road?
How long should all this take for an amateur wrench turner?

Fp guage is pretty easy, as far as where to run it...?? You can try the grommet where the harness comes through the firewall if it will fit. I used the isolator and small plastic tube so it was ok, so I don't know what size fuel line you will be puttin through. Just kinda have to do the trial and error and put it where you like it. Titanium bits will do the trick, how to do it...i.e, remove turbo, not to remove and such is a matter of opinion and how you feel about it. Not sure about the Vulcan either, have not installed yet but will in the near future. Probably do it all in 4 hours or so....others should chime in with more info

I install my Vulcan kit in 2 hours in the rain, but I'm an experienced wrench turner, 4 hours ought be enough time for it. Beware, when you cut the line its going to syphin fuel from the tank, so be ready to do something. I carefully with a rag in the tank inlet blew air into the line to break the syphin, then I could work without taking a diesel fuel bath.
I don't know about the fuel gauge, mines a Westach and it has an electric sending unit. I wasn't wild about having fuel in the cab.
Drilling the manifold, Some people remove the turbo, other don't. I left it on and used grease on the bits and tap, then used a maginet to get anything I might have missed out.
You don't have to unhook the IP, just bump the starter, it should run the pump for 30 secs or so, do that a couple of times and check for leaks or fittings you didn't tighten. Don't ask how I know.

I just got done yesterday with the Vulcan. If I had to make a living doing this, I would starve. Murphy was my helper.
Sat. went smoothly, sort of. I may have read it, but removing the Fuel Filer from the enging is a must. Getting to the LP and working in that area is a pain in the rear. Required a small step stool. I removed the ever loved banjo bolts & removed LP, lines as said.
I found a kit a NAPA that all may benefit from for the FP gauge.. It has all the fittings and 8' or so of small copper line, VDO Tubing kit 7012154, Napa#V1893900280DN. I have the DiProco,l gauges, very nice.The tubing is small enough where no needle valve is needed. I will carry the parts from Vulcan to plug the line, if needed.
Rather than take a voluntary diesel bath, I ran out the fuel into 5 gal. jugs. I had just under 1/2 tank, so about 4 did the job. I used what was left of the fuel line, draied it by the front tire.
Sunday proved frustating. The braket wsa drilled wrong to mount on frame, and holes for thr LP seemed backward. A few holes, no biggie.
I have an old tubing cutter, about 6" long. I cut the line once near the cross bracket, so I could move the line to get my cutter in the space. I made 2 more cuts, finally back about 5" from the tank, where it would easily fir the LP connection.
What proved to be the real issue was getting it running. I put 1/2 tank back in, but when I opened the line at the LP, no fuel. I finished filling the tank, that solved that problem. I left the gauge off the liitle FP line to see if I had fuel there. Nothing after bumping the starter several times. I tried priming the FF, nothinhg. So, I swapped out the LP. Sure enough, the old LP made NO PRESURRE. New pump put out almost 15. After bumping the starter a few more times & cranking about 10 secs, the happy sound of a CTD purring. When over, I had spilled enough diesel to need a small Hazmat Crew. (maybe a quart or 2).
Now, is my VP44 got issues? It seems to run OK.
How do you find the codes on a 2002?
Next weekend, finish the gauge installation. Do most of you take off the turbo to get the metal from drilling?
Huge benefit from Vulcan, you can swap LP out in 10 mins or so. I may get a couple more of the metric conversion fittings to put on my spare LP I keep in the truck. That would save having to fool with them while under the truck with a finger over the fuel line. With the $65 FP kits from Cummins, swapping out pumps every year or two does not seem much of an issue. After 7, I could have had a FASS, but in the interim, money ahead, with a state of the art fuel system.
Other than the bracket, the Vulcan is a finely engineered product that all Gen 2's should have(with FP guage). The instuctions could have been a bit more detailed for novice wrench turners.

Key on...off...on...off...on! Don't start it or bump it, if that needs saying!
Read any codes in odometer. you will get two sets of numbers... ECM & PCM. When done...each will say "Done"

I ran the codes and came up blanks. I trust this is a very good thing! Perhaps there is hope for my VP44, that I caught it in time. I wodered if the process of moving it(LP) could have made it fail. Seems like an unlikely event.

I put fuel in the tank on the slowest setting on the despensing nozzle to give the gas station filters a chance...no point in buying their water and trash , and use a fuel treatment with every fueling at the mfg's recommend.
