Re:Flowmaster or Straight pipe??
Been on both sides of this issue. First put in straight pipe. Liked sound around town, but want to listen to stereo out on the road. Put on FM. First about where cat was, had 1800rpm drone. Then all the way back to front of tailpipe, perfect. Took out the raspiness. Still has powerful sound (esp at 1800-2000), but is quiet enough going down the road.
IMO, while the diesel exhaust may not have quite the pulse characteristics as gassers, there are still some sound waves traveling down the pipe (otherwise you would just hear a rushing air sound, even straight piped).
If you talk to the techs at FM, they will recommend the lager body size for the diesel. Also series with extra chambers will cut down on the droan possibility. I currently have the standard 3" 40 series. Will soon be fabbing a 4" system with the FM Delta Force Race series. Even though it's a "race" muffler, it has an extra balance chamber.
