Re:Flowmaster exhaust system

Mr Dart440-
I just put a full 4" system on my 01. I bought it from Rip Rook at sourceautomotive.biz, he is a member here also ;D. I was running a stock system that I had straight piped. My new system is awesome! I do have a muffler on it, but I think it is throatier sounding than before and my turbo seems to spool a bit faster as well. Never ran the flowmaster, but I will say Rip's system is SWEET ;D

More air out of the motor will lower EGT because air can exit the motor easier. With less back pressure, the motor can get rid of exhaust easier, leaving less exhaust in the cylinders. Less exhaust in the cylinders allows more fresh air in the cylinders, thus, lower EGT. (Does that make any sense?, or did I just jumble things up a bunch?)

The stock exhaust, when straight piped is good to about 350RWHP. A 5" Exhaust is good to mid 500's.

BTW, I'm 20 yrs old. Not bragging, just an FYI

Hey Peanut (hah- love that name )
A 4" exhaust system on a stock rig won't do you much if any good. There is a rule of thumb that a stock system will support 350 bhp just fine. If you are looking for a first BOMB- buy some gauges

Re:Flowmaster exhaust system

I know on my truck, when I would race my buddies PSD (crew cab short bed 4x4) he would beat me. As soon as I put my exhaust on (4" turbo back), we would run dead even. Couldn't tell you bout EGT's or spoolup, didn't have gauges at the time.
Interesting! Maybe your truck needed the flow of open exhaust and straight piping the stock 3" would have probably yielded the same gains. But I hear 4" sounds better. Just one less thing you will have to worry about in future modifications. ;D What brand did you get?

I don't know. Got it from High Performance Diesel in Baytown or somewhere like that. All I had on the truck at the time was a K&N filter.

Peanut,

Yes with a stock truck you will get reduced EGT's , quicker spool up of the turbo and a much deeper tone on the exhaust note. We sell systems all the time to folks towing heavy on a totally stock truck just for EGT temp reduction, they always comment how the turbo responds fatser as a bonus to the EGT drop.
