Flex plate exploded. Suggestions?

I was away at training when the diesel shop installed it with my DTT trans stuff. It was warped or something cause it ended up burning up my trans front pump, so we put a laminated one in, and it worked with no problem. Everything was fine before the PRW and after the PRW, but with it in there it caused a converter/pump misalignment and screwed everything up. Matter of fact I still have to send the thing back when I get some time. I should ask for the pump cost and R&R involved.

Well that sucks to hear. I bought it already so I'll take a look at it when I get it. I really hope I have a better experience. Was it because of of lack of end play or was it out of center? Any info you could give me would really help on what to look out for.
Thanks

My tranny builder looked it over when it arrived, said it looked good. "Looks heavier duty in alot of ways." He put it in and it burnt up the pump. He called PRW and they said he had to have a custom converter made to fit the flexplate. He said "How was I supposed to know that..." They had no answer for him. As you can see "sshort" said he was shimming his transmission to get the correct converter depth with a PRW flexplate. It doesnt say anywhere in or on the package you need a custom build to fit converter. Who the hell changes out the $1300 converter to fit a $100 flexplate. It should be fitting perfectly with stock sized converters. DTT and Suncoast and those guys arent tell people they need a new converter with the flexplate.

Well hmm I will have to look out for that and tell my builder to watch for that too, but something just seems weird here. A billet plate is going to be thicker than one of the PRW ones and thicker than the laminate ones. Did your builder not check end play once he got the converter in?
I'm just trying to figure out what happened so I don't have the same problem.
Did your builder make any adjustments after taking the PRW one out? You are running a suncoast laminated one now correct?

Thickness wasnt the problem is was either warped or designed poorly. I have a Goerend laminated in there now since he's a Goerend Trans guy. Straight from the mouth PRW they said it needed a custom made shorter converter and there is no way in hell I am shimming the transmission off the engine to put huge amount of tension on the bellhousing and bolts. No adjustments needed for the current flexplate.
Buyer beware.

From what PRW was telling you at least it sounds like they thought the thickness was the problem. I'm not trying to argue with you or anything I just don't want this to happen to my truck too.
What did your builder say was wrong with the flexplate? I'm just trying to understand what could have gone wrong or what to look out for. If it was warped I would assume your builder would have seen that when he mounted it up to the converter.

Let me know how that works out. From what I have read some people are running them with no problems, but the consensus seems to be that the 2 are in fact different.
Maybe once you get yours you could shed a little more light on it for us.

Update on my '02 the 6.7 flexplate is identical except for the hole in the center is slightly larger on the 6.7 which means nothing on a 5.9 scause the converter hub goes into the crankshaft anyway. The 5.9 might not work on a 6.7 though if the converter hub and crankshaft are larger. So ya they're different. Mine is bolted up and ready for the trans to go back in.
