Flex plate exploded. Suggestions?
#16
Go to your dodge dealer and purchase a 6.7L flexplate. they're a little over a $120 and are a solid flexplate (no holes or webbing) It will directly replace your stock one no modifications. Have one on my '01 and it holds tons of power with hard launches.(33x17 slicks)
really? my dealer ship wanted $420 for a stock flexplate, i laughed and hung up the phone.

I bought this truck in non-running condition. The previous owner had a lot of high performance stuff on it, and I sort of assumed (bad, I know) that a piston or two had melted. I pulled the transmission today and found the flex plate all torn up. Motor is probably just fine. I will be putting it back together with a single turbo instead of the BD twins. Any suggestions for a flex plate?

I am not a fan of laminated flex plates although I have used them in the gassers for years.
Well, we used to. At that time, the rules were a bit more lax and it's the only way we could get them to hold up to slicks and coming off the pad. Nowadays, most of the laminated versions I see have tons of run out outright warp. Maybe some are better, just know what you are getting.
The billet versions get a bad rap as well. The "flexing" of a flexplate is not what most visualize, so it's hard to illustrate the point. I run an old school Reactor on my truck and that thing is thick! It can't flex at all. But, it runs true. It all depends on your perspective of the right fit.

Stock flex plate
I called a dealer here. He quoted me $149.00 for a flex plate for an '08 6.7 liter. It sounded too cheap, so I called another dealer, and HE quoted me $121.00! The deal maker was that they will have it for me tomorrow. I called the nice folks at Pure Diesel Power and they were very nice about changing my order. I bought my wife the steering stablizer she's been wanting for her '99 2WD instead of the BD Black flex plate. Nice folks at Pure Diesel Power.

I found a while back that dealers in different areas charge VASTLY different prices for the same part. Recently I was quoted $167.00 for a CPK in Tucson, and $67.00 in Las Vegas. I ended up buying it for $44.00 from Cummins in Vegas.

Got the 6.5l flex plate
Got the Flex Plate from Dodge today. It was indeed $121.00 dollars. I don't know what type of steel it's made of, but it is .085" thick, and has been shot-peened. In case you're wondering (as I was) just what shot peening does:

Now if my rear main seal would just get here.....

I have heard stories of the Ebay flexplates being of poor quality.
The tabs on the back of the flywheel are not spaced correctly and the center hole that the TC "nub" goes into is out of center, thus allowing the flexplate to "waller" around on the crankshaft since there is nothing to keep it centered.
Just what I've heard.

Did you get the gold version of the PRW or the Platinum. I've heard that the gold ones were junk, but supposedly the new platinum ones are redone and much better. Anyone got any info?
I'm gonna be doing some trans work and was thinking about the PRW platinum one or the 6.7 one, but some people say the 6.7s don't work on the 5.9's, but some people say they do.
Anyone know for sure?

Bought the PRW flexplate, and installed it yesterday. Today it ate the pump out of my trans. Called PRW, they said I should have bought a shorter torque converter to match up to the flexplate since it pushed into the pump to hard/far...$1200 converter should match to the $130 flexplate? It's getting sent right the ____ back. Horrible, I'd be willing to try the 6.7 one though...but I put a laminated one in instead.

I bought one from PWR it is chrome moly & much thicker than stock plate $139.00 sfi rating I had problem with stock plate flexing to much letting torque converter hit front of trans on my 91 dodge this took care of problem but you have to make spacers for trans to engine if you are running a stock converter next i will be buying a good converter but i wanted to fix original problem first I don't think you are getting $500.00 dollars worth out of some of these so called billet & laminated flex plates unless you are strictly drag racing just my $.02 worth
