Firestone tires

I am starting to shop tires. I still have the stock rims and don't do a lot of off-roading but would like to start doing some. I pull a heavy trailer often. Does anyone have any experience with Firestone truck tires? I am looking at the Firestone Destination MT. I like the looks of the tread and the reviews on Tire Rack seem positive.
Thanks in advance for any input.

How much off roading do you want to do compared to highway driving? Do you want good tread life? I haven't had any experience with Firestone truck tires, but I do know that the BFG All Terrain TA K/Os are really good all around tires, and they even come in an E rating. Goodyear Wrangler with Silent Armor is a good tire too, has a more aggressive look, and it comes in an E rating, as well. I haven't tried the Toyo ATs, but my dad does have the Toyo M/Ts on one of his trucks. They seem to have really good overall traction, a smooth ride, and a good look... I just don't know much about the tread wear on those. I have ProComp all terrains on my truck now, but they are the older Pro Comps. The tread wear seems to be decent, but the off road traction is not too great. IMO, I wouldn't go back to them, but I have heard that their technology is getting better. Hope this helps!

Thanks Nate.
Off roading will be little, just for fun now and then. Looking for good wet road traction and long life.

I ran the Firestones before I went to the Dick Cepeks. Great tire. I got 54k out of mine on a K2500 chevy diesel. I would but them again before the BFG's. Much better traction and quieter.

You'll probably want to look into an AT tire then. They have pretty good off road traction and good tread life

I know they are not the best tires in terms of brand name but at the time I needed tires BAD and Discount Tire offered me a deal on 6 of their "Pathfinder" all terrain tires for like $112/tire installed..

Long story short.. they wore very well.. I put them on at around 45-47,000 miles and I still have 6/32 up front and a soild 7-9/32 in the rear depending on position..

Only rotated them twice/treated them like crap... but hey.. they have lasted 61,000 miles so far.. only compaint is that they do cake up easy but then again I am only 2wd.

Thanks guys. I'm really just getting started. I do plan on going to Discount to see their latest tires. We also have NTB in Houston. I was there a while back and they have a good looking tire...but I don't remember price or milage estimate.

Using Firestone Transforce HT, load range E. They are a highway tire but that's where I do the majority of my driving. They are quiet and tread water well. Just towed a bunch of RV trailers(about 300 miles)for a dealer going out of business and no problems. Had 3 BFG All Terrain TA K/Os blow out in a year or so... never buy them again. Somehow, the new K/Os are just not the same as the old TAs that I used for years.
my 2 cents...

Yes they are surprisingly quiet. My son just went to Discount tire also and got their own brand, I believe they were Pathfinder, and the cost was 112 or so. They seem to be a good tire so far, but I do not drive his truck. I know they are a bit pricey, but I am more impressed so far with the Dick Cepek's than just about any other tire I have ever ran.

Tires are always a compromise.

If wet traction is most important, the the Bridgestone AT Revos are probably your best bet.

If off-roading matters, get some Toyo M/Ts.

If snow traction matters most, get Nitto A/Ts.

I almost never off-road, so I'm looking at ATs that are good in snow and wet-- like Revos and Nittos.

That new Nitto DuraGrappler has my attention, too-- more of a hwy tread, but lots of sipes should do well in snow and wet.

Thanks for all of the input! I will go take a look at the Pathfinders. I don't know about anywhere else but in Houston you sure can't beat Discount's service.
I mentioned NTB yesterday, but they don't have near the service of Discount. Went there a while back to get a nail in the tire fixed and they told me it would be about 2 hours! That was after I had already been there for 45 minutes! They need to keep a tech on "standby" for quick things like that. Discount gets you in and out on a repair.
