Filter Minder with Scotty II?

I tried searching, didn't come back with what I was looking for...

I'd like to incorporate my filter minder into the ScottyII I've got.. could it possibly be as easy as I'm thinking... just drill a hole anywhere between the filter and the turbo, and pop it in?

or would a venturi cause it to suck down prematurely?

Scotty left them out intentionally as the extra flow you get from the Scotty system, will pull down the filter minder on a clean filter.

I added a filter minder to my Scotty, it's as easy as it looks, just drill a hole and pop it in. Mine has never moved.

say what? that would indicate that the scotty was restrictive when clean. who would buy that?

Yeah.. This doesn't make much sense. There shouldn't be any increased flow downstream from the filter. How does that work?

Hmmm, nice comment.

Some folks reported their minder sucked down and the reason was the venturi created by the air flow. Yet some said it never moved and won't.

Either way, it flows more and reduces exhaust gas temps better then anything else...ON A MODIFIED TRUCK.

Thats who buys it.

wasn't making fun of anything, but there really can't be any venturi effect without a venturi as far as i know. if you stick the filterminder in the bottom of the filter it should work just the same as if it were in the stock box. i'm just using the stocker for now so i can't experiment but i'm sure i'll get to it sooner or later. later

I don't see the benefit of the filter minder on the Scotty II.
What I have conveyed here is what some folks have told me.
I tried a filter minder for a whole five minutes way back in 98.

Visual inspection is quite easy with this System.

If a person was to force air past an opening or something like the filter minder, I guess thats a vacuum not a venturi then, right?

Kinda like a siphon too. Or am I way off?

If you want an aftermarket filter that can use the filterminder, than I suggest you buy a K&N "Hot Air" Induction kit. This kit uses it, as a matter of fact if you are interested in one, I just happen to have a brand new one that I got for my truck. Installed it and took one test ride and off it came. Raised my EGT's over 300 degrees above my Scottys II. So the Scotty's II got reinstalled immediately. I can't say enought about this air filter, except it 'REALLY' works.

Without the K&N, I could not even make it up the grade by my house empty without my EGT's hitting 1300. With Scotty's II, I cruise up it just under a 1000.

I can't imagine this filter getting dirty enough that it would even set off the minder in the first place. Even dirty it should flow more than a new (clean) stock filter setup.

My comments were made, not as a flame or to be construed in any way as being negative toward the Scotty II. I was just trying to figure out why the filter minder would move on the Scotty II. It's a pretty simple device. When the internal pressure of the filter drops below that of atmosphere or inlet pressure (assuming that the inlet is under the hood with the filter minder), the filter minder will move if that delta P exceeds the preset spring induced setting in the device. The reason it is moving in the Scotty II system is that the pressure existing at the cowl is greater than the underhood pressure. In order for the filter minder to work properly with the Scotty, it would have to be mounted at the cowl, the highest pressure point in the induction system, not under the hood. Sound logical Scotty?
