Thanks for the replies guys. I will let you know how the new sticks work as soon as I can afford to get them. But in the meantime was lookin at the ID tag on the turbo and it only has an assembly number no serial number or model number on it. This puzzles me I have to wonder if it is the Super 40 I paid for. Does anyone know how I can identify this turbo with just the assembly number?
Thanks again,
Joe

take a pic, the super 40s have a different look to them, and the shaft is larger that 5/16ths.

is it only making 30psi with the wastegate line pinched? I'd be surprised if 30psi is all you can get out of it w/ 275's and a drag comp.

Attachment 9031Sorry about the bad pics it was dark out when I took them. The compressor wheel has 7 fins like the super 40 is supposed to have.

well, pinch the wastegate line and see what she does! if it's set low, it'll make it seem sluggish and EGT's will be high

Well I pinched the wg line off and it helped the spool up a good deal, so now I'll get a boost elbow and go from there. With the comp on 1x5 it is a little laggy but on 5x5 it isn't bad at all thanks for the tips guys.

Well I have another question about twins. How do you know what turbo will make a good bottom charger? I keep looking on ebay and there are lots of turbos listed, but how do you identify them to know if they will work? I just figured I could gather up the parts for twins as I go along and put a set together. Any help would be appreciated.

B2/s400 and Bht3 are the most popular ones

To pick a bottom turbo, you need to know how much air it will deliver (in pounds) and how much air your top turbo will need to keep it fed.

To do this, you have to know what kind of pressure ratio you want to maintain to the top turbo. If you only want to feed it with 15-20psi, then you don't need as large a turbo as you would if you want to feed it with 30psi or so.

I'd figure it this way: if your small turbo can deliver, say, 35lb/min when it's drawing atmoshperic air at 14.7psia, then it should double the output to 70lb/min when it's drawing in boosted air at 29.4 psia.

Thus, you would need a big turbo capable of delivering at least 70lb/min in the above scenario. In actuality, you'd want to account for inefficiencies and increase that capacity to 80lb/min or more.

This is where it's useful to have a HP goal in mind, because you can calculate the actual lb/min of air you will need to provide a certain EGT at a certain amount of HP. Obviously it will take more air to make 500hp with 1200 EGTs than with 1500 EGTs.

For my personal hp goals of around 550, I previously calculated that a turbo in the 100 lb/min range would be about ideal to use with my stock turbo. I'd have to run higher pressures in the crossover pipe-- closer to 28psi.

OK one more quick question for those of you running twins. Is your hot pipe stainless steel? I am in the process of making a hot pipe and i am not using stainless so will mild stell hold up or will it crack up on me?
Sorry for all the questions

I used a schedule 40 90 degree bend and a short piece of schedule 40 pipe.

stainless is more crack prone, mild steel is preferred

FWIW - At 65 psi a Primary B-2 (S400) is at 30-32 psi. My S300 bottom turbo, with a BIG turbine housing on it, is pushing 38 psi.... with no real Egt concerns.

I could probably make good use of an S400, but at 550 hp or below, don't see the need for bigger primary or the added lag. BD has proved it, IMO.

Ok so where is a good place to buy a b2 or bht3 charger? I have done some searching and found them for around $600. Is that a reasonable price? Sorry for all the questions but I am trying to search but I cant always find what I am looking for
Thanks
