Depending on the maker of the tire, a 285 and a 305 are considered to be roughly a 33" tire. BFG for example the 315 is a 35" tire.

If I were you I'd stay away from the BFG All Terrains.......I personally don't like them and think they are way over priced for the life you get out of the tire.

And no, the flares you asked about won't fit the rear on a dually, just the fronts!

Ok. But hey, You cant say only on the width of the tire how high it is.

I founded Tire inch calculator on the web. It says that 305/85 R16 is 36.3" high.

If I buy 17 or 18" rims, I can use much narrower tire to reach 36" size.

Is there 18" chrome alunium aftermarket rims available to dually? There is certainly 18" rims available to 3/4 ton ram wich I put on the front.

Is there any fender flares specially designed to dually rear fenders?

Ok this is coming direct from BFG's website:

BFG All Terrains

LT285/75R/16D.. Measures 11.4" Wide on a 8" rim and measures 32.8" tall

LT305/75R/16D.. Measures 12.2" Wide on a 9" rim and measures 33.0" tall

LT315/75R/16D.. Measures 12.2" Wide on a 8.5" rim and measures 34.6" tall

And like I said......a lot of tires are totally different on sizes and widths so a generic tire calculator won't be that accurate. Find out what tire you want to run and look up there spec's so you know exactly the sizes.

Oh and the 17" and 18" rims won't make any difference as far as tire width.......anytime you start going to larger sizes, about the skinniest tire you'll be able to find is about 11" wide but more likely about 12"....

Once you step up to 17" or 18" rims.......a 9" wide rim is about the smallest you are gonna find........now if you stay with a 16" rim you can get and 8".
But then you have to also look at offset......the lower the number on the offset the farther it is going to stick out.

The issue you will probally find is that although a 265/85/18 may be the perfect size tire for what you want, no one makes one...

I have a picture of a dually with a 6" lift and BFG 315's on a 6" rim with 2" spacers. I think it's perfect and have been trying to post it since this thread started but being a newbie here I'm not yet allowed, too bad.
PM me if your interested or I can send it to someone else to post for me?

I've uploaded pics into the members gallery, just waiting for approval.

My local tire guy is really good and although he has a limited stock, has agreed to help me fit multiple tires and wheel combos until we find a combo that measures the same. I was thinking of removing the extender and using an 8" rim up front and trying to match up the height with 235/85/17's on the back.
I've had big trucks with tires that stick out and I'm tired of always having a dirty truck so I'm after the largest tires I can go and still be inside the fenders. I put new tires on my truck when I bought it so I shouldn't be in the market again till next year so I have some time to mull it all over anyways.

The fronts on duallies are fairly easy to keep inside the fender well when going to larger tires, but I think you are always gonna have the tires sticking out on the rear some. Especially if you go any wider than stock, you might end up having to put a spacer inbetween so the tires don't rub.

But all in all I think lifted duallies look SWEET!!!

The biggest problem on duallies is being limited by 6" wide rims. Even my 265's bulge out on a 6" rim, imagine the 315's.

there is a local guy here running a reg cab dually with 4.5" lift, ill try to stop him one day and get a look at his tires. i think he runs bigger tires but i also know that they are some odd ball size swampers, like a 34 or 36x9.50 R16

if you search some of the "not so popular" tire companies you can find these larger narrow sizes...i think even goodyear makes a commercial tire that is tall and narrow with aggressve tread

EDIT: i cant find the goodyear tire i had seen a long time ago...but if you want an aggressive tire in the size you need, super swamper is the place to go...but the tread wear isnt that great, with alot of street/highway driving they will wear out quick

http://www.intercotire.com/site33.php check out the tire #SAM-53 its 35.5x9.5 R16

Yeah, lifted duallies with good taste look much better than singlerearwheel ones.

Hmm, I dont use my truck to offroad so maybe I'll pass those swampers, too soft for highway use.

I found couple of pretty cool duallies.
1: http://www.essentiallyoffroad.com/christian_dodge.htm
2: http://dodgeram.org/rides/web/dually...griff996_1.jpg
3:http://www.thelandofgiants.com/Quathems_Big_Dodge.jpg

First and second truck rear wheels are sticking out too much but third one has some pretty nice flares there. Is there any aftermarket flares for duallies?

But it's not a problem if we just could put only wider front tires but keeping still the same diameter as rear ones has?

Getblown 5.9:
That would be nice, if you can do it. Pic also would be nice...
