Feedback from my 1800 mile towing trip.
I towed about 7000lbs for 1000 miles of this trip. I went up some 6% grades with the 3rd gear locked EGTs would be about 950 degrees, in lock up EGT's were about 1250+. Needless to say OD was off going up steep hills. On flat highway cruising at 70-75 mph I averaged about 950 degrees I would touch 1100 - 1150 on rolling hills, this was all in 90+ degree heat. Egts were about 1250 getting up to highway speeds from on ramps. Not too bad for a truck that has the ability to run 13.4's at the track.
I ran the Smarty on 7 and TST on 1 the whole trip.

Mike, Sounds real workable!
I had similar temps/experience with my setup ... before twins, and with Mach 4's..... towing 7,000 lbs. I am expecting better from twins... but mine are very different (smaller) than yours. #1 on TST was about my limits also.
I don't get the higher temps in 3rd gear lock up? Should be lower locked than unlocked .... No?

RJ, I meant to say 3rd gear lock-up ran coolest while 4th locked was too hot. I just let the her rev around 2800 rpms and she pulled the grades around 70 mph. I was surprised at how easy egts were to control with the 4's. The faster she ran in OD locked the cooler the egts were on flat ground.
I avg. about 13.5 mpg pulling loaded, unloaded I didn't try to figure as I was running about 80-85 mph on the way home.
It was terrible trying to firgure mileage as some places would only let you get $50-75 at a time???
