fastest VP truck and some other questions
#31
Sounds like the guys building a hard running street truck as fuel mileage is still in the picture. 8's are big and smokey. If your driving the truck daily and wanting a big #'s truck, a fat tuned P pump will smoke out everyone out. The turbo question, you have to find the turbos that work for you. I'll sell you might, I just rebuilt them, fresh turbos. PM if your interested. If you want bigger, your almost too big for city driving. Hiway isn't too bad if you time your passing of cars. I still think that the VP trucks would work great for both a hard running but the not the fastest truck drag vehicle and still drive it to work selection. Put everything together, sticks sized at 6 to 7's depending on tuning has show you can run low 12's. 8's are an all out stick, requiring nos, but your injection pump has to be new to push the fuel. VP start out good but lose there ump after time. The other guys (p pumps and cp's) seem to hang in there longer than us. Good luck

Hi Mike
thanks for the info. I am going to stick with your advise if I go the VP route. I dont own a dodge currently ( I got a F550). So I need to decide if I am going wait until I can afford a CR or go ahead and get a VP truck sooner.
thanks,
Andrew

I guess that their are two types of people in the world, one's that want to own a dodge cummin's or the lucky guys that get to own one. If your lucky you can find a sweet hardly used ride ASAP and join in before we are all driving the CPR rides or electro/gasers. It just isn't the same in my books. They don't sound like a truck and are too civilianized for me. I like the fact that my wife hate the truck (she calls it the smokey beast) and doesn't want to go for ride in her. It makes it easier to pick up the hot chicks without her in the cab.

I found a 1999 2500 24v 4x4 with 189k miles he is asking $9500
1. Do 1999s have 53 blocks?
2. would it be worth it to get this truck or should I hold out until summer or possibly fall to buy a 2003/2004 CR? my goal is to be in the 11s as a DD
thanks,
Andrew

I'd say most 99's have 53 blocks. Mine is not cracked and it has 227K, well over half of that pulling trailers.
That is a good price, I would be leery of the VP44 injection pump, if it is the stock one, it has to be on it's last legs, that said, you will want a new VP if your gonna run 11's. With that low of a base truck cost, you should have a lot more money to play with as far as mods. 11 sec on a VP truck is hard to do. Good luck whatever you choose.

I am going to send the guy a email to see if it has a 53 block. I would get the VP replaced and add a fass unit to help feed it
1. how much is a bare non 53 block?
2. Even with mach 7s and a compound turbo setup do you still think it would be hard to get into the 11s?
thanks,
Andrew

Maybe with a shot of NO2, I know that lots of guys will say, its been done without NO2, but just from reading and such, it seems that 11's are hard to obtain with such a heavy truck while retaining driveability and reliability.
That said, the price difference will give you more options for upgrades like ladder bars and such.
Just look at Rowj's truck, he has a good set of twins, mach 6's, TST Smarty stack and still has a long ways to go before consistent 11's. I think if a guy like RowJ were to lose those heavy bumpers, take out the spare, run one battery etc, etc and shave 1000 lbs, he could run 11's with his current setup.
11 sec is pretty darn fast= Lambo, Ferrari, and various other expensive cars.

Yeah I was reading that supposedly with mach 7s you can get into the 11s. I would be happy with 12s but all my friends are in the 12s with fords so it would be nice to be a little bit ahead of them.
What has been the fastest trap speed so far for the 12s?
If I buy a hrvp and run a Fass unit to it would that be a reliable long lasting setup that would be consistently in the 12s?
thanks,
andrew

Right now I am in between building up a F250 or dodge 2500. I some of my friends are in the 11s at 114 and David Lott did 12 something at 128 with his F250. So its a hard decision between the two trucks
