fastest VP truck and some other questions

Hey guys

I am doing my homework before I buy my next truck to make a DD/ racer.

1. Who has the fastest VP powered truck?

2. How much HP/ tq does it have?

3. Where does the power start to drop off?

thanks,
Andrew

In all honesty, I Love my 24v 2nd gens but if i was building another truck it would be 12v or CR 3ed gen! just an honest opinion! As far as power im not sure!

I know that the stock vp go bad. But what is the problem with a hot rod VP? What is holding the VP powered trucks from making as much power as a 12v or a CR?

thanks,
Andrew

The pump simply can't flow enough. A P-Pump can be built to flow an insane ammount of fuel, and you can run dual CP3 pumps to keep the rail full, but the VP just hits it's limit sooner. Like the VE pump. (Is it a rotary pump thing? Or is that the tequilla thinking for me)

There was the "Monster VP" project that I believe is no longer going...

I thought I heard you can run a P pump on a 24v is that correct?

how much work is necessary to do this?

thanks,
Andrew

Yes you can, do a search, it is not a real complicated swap, but there are some different opinions on how well it works and how much is involved...

I just found a thread on the P pump conversion just reading through it, it seems that the cost does not justify the means. It would make more sense for me to get a CR.

I am still interested to see who is making the most power on a VP truck?

thanks,
Andrew

The highest HP I've seen on a VP truck is around the 700+ rwhp area, just on #2. Yes you can add nos and methanol spray and get close to 900-1000 rwhp area. I haven't given up on the VP trucks but saying that if you building an all out race truck go the 24v with a P pump with the works in it. If put together right you be near the 1000rwhp mark. Its would be a smokey beast for the street. An all out race truck could be around the 1200cc's area for pump size, any more its just over kill. You need some killer sized turbo's to support that pump.

I'm just guessing.. but I think the fastest VP truck would have been TS Performance's white truck... before it went to a P-pump.. I don't know if its a conversion.. or just a 12V engine now... I was thinking they were in the 10's with the VP.. and spray.... If not they were very very close...

Yes Dennis still holds the record for the fastest VP truck, had a So pump comp box and big sticks from Mass stock bottom end ,cam and head , Its a converted P pump 24v and the first time out it ran 10.30s ,still tuning and learing the truck ........

Will a hot rod VP last long in the higher hp applications 700hp range?

I want to get in the 11s or 10s on a VP and have it last if possible.

thanks,
Andrew

I think 11's are an easy target. Some fine tuning 10's. There have been guys running 11's just on #2. I remember Nathan Wright's old truck running into the 11's just on small set of mach 7's and twins. My truck would probably get close to 11's. I would run a 4X4 truck, as they're 60' times are unreal. Thats what wins the race, not just HP. I would have the spray set-up to come on at above 25psi. Boost launch at around 20-25psi. Have your methanol come on fully at above 30psi and start around the 25 mark as well. I'm still fine tuning, so my numbers are off. I drive my truck daily to work, so how many 11 second race cars are doing that and getting 20mpg. If you go P pump, just don't get the big of a pump. I think that maddog's pump came from DDP, he run over 1000rwhp, on just #2. Its not a daily driver but it can be. The smoke trails would big and nasty.
