The fan clutch shouldn't affect the a/c. The pulley will still be turning. Unless you mean the A/C clutch, but those things are pretty much in or out, so maybe your a/c compressor is not keeping the pressure up? I'd try a recharge. If you have r134a, you can get a can at a parts store for 20 bucks or something, and it's super easy to do.

Or maybe there is something unique to the 12valve that I am missing. If so, please excuse my goof.

The fan needs to turn to cool the condenser, it needs air. When you are driving the air is blown through it. I would use a universal electric fan if it was me.

I never really thought about the fan clutch being bad. My A/C doesn't blow that cold at idle either. I think it's normal. All our cars do it.

Mine blows cold but not quite as cold as while running, that is a factor of the btu output is a factor of the rpm of the compressor and also the high pressure with less air movement over the cond. the pressure will increase and the evap pressure will also increase slightly. Ed
