Failed IP...next upgrade
I think IP failed today. If so, what are the advantages of going with a hot rod VP 44? Truck already has a handful of upgrades. More to add would be good too. If I'm going to plop down major $, I go the extra step.
P pumps are only made for earlier than 01 trucks?
(hurt my back...waiting till tomorrow to confirm bad news)

From what I understand, the HR VP44 is worth it if you aren't doing other mods, but if you are getting a programmer, turbo, injectors, etc that the benefits are not there anymore. I don't think I worded that well.
For the cost of a HR VP you could get a good "regular" VP and spend the difference on injectors or other upgrades and it would be more worth while.
This is of course just my advice, don't take it too seriously. Some others with more knowledge will chime in....

If you have the ambition, money and knowledge to do it, I say p-pump it. Much more reliable, drives better than my truck with an HRVP, and I like pulling wrenches more than pressing buttons anyway.
01's can be p-pumped, just need to grind the timing case a little bit so the cam sensor will be behind the tone ring on the cam gear. This isn't neccesary on the 98-00 trucks, since they have a crank sensor.

I've heard alot of guys say to stick with the SO pump.
Now the p-pump idea. If you like the ability to turn the extra power on and off at the flick of a switch, push a few buttoms, or add more power by plugging a new box in then stick with the VP. But if you like to tune and tweak things manully get a p-pump set up. I've read and have been told p-pumped 24v trucks can be a pain to tune correctly and can be not as real street friendly, but them others have no problem and use their p-pumped trucks as daily drivers. And I agree with what Tate said, the p-pump is more reliable than a VP44.
It's whatever you want to do. I'd like to p-pump my truck someday, but I probably wouldn't be using it as my daily driver. It would be strictly my toy then.
