I'm running one in my 12v and installed one in a 3rd gen. Coupled with the 4000gsk and a B1 it makes mine pull HARD from 1300rpm to 4000rpm. It's a nice, flat torque curve that doesn't drop off. The owner of the 3rd gen is extremely pleased. It's also a nice, flat, monster torque curve that brought EGT down and moves some serious air. Cruising at interstate speeds he picked up 2mpg (hand calc'd) on the trip home.

Both trucks have the Helix 2 cam.

Chris, after tuning dmaxs all week I'd love to have more fuel! I should be able to make it down Saturday afternoon, I'll call when I know.

Brandon buddy, what have done to your pump? What cc number you at yet? I remember seeing that you have the 4K spring and a plate. Is your motor as strong as your old 24valver?

i know the helix cams are basically like the best out there...but i see haisley, sheid, PDR, and woodruff diesel all listing a cam for the $350-450 range...how do they compare? i mean how much more power is a helix cam going to make etc?

i want a cam mostly for the EGT drop and sound change in the engine rather than the overall pwoer gain. i gotta see if i can find the video on dieselgarage.com that showed a 3rd gen with a heavy lope...single stack thru the hood, and every time the engine loped at idle it put out a perfect smoke ring into the air, that was a serious cam and some radical timing

It's just like a turbo change. You're changing the amount of air you can flow over a period of time. On a truck with the perfect setup, you won't see that much power increase, however, on a truck with an airflow issue, you'll see a much bigger increase since it can support more air.

The third gen in the video is a p-pumped 3rd gen. His idle isn't so much of a cam change as it is a injection timing change. If you want the lopey idle, you'll need to go with large amounts of timing advance.

Just a plate and 4k springs. It'll have DV's this summer since Chris is letting me borrow them. Then the bottle.

Labor intensive for me meant that I spent ~8 hours of tear down and about 10 hours to finish on my 24v. The 3rd gen took about 24 hours total. Including the time it took while replacing a seal on the crank. I could probably tear down in about 5 hours and replace in 8 hours now that I'm familiar with each generation.

Yeah there is some work involved thats for sure.

I probably have 60 hours in the way the motor is setup now.

His new truck is still pretty mild...right now, he's just using my "hand me down" parts

Those DV's will wake it up though, should put him over the 500 mark, or close to it!!

He's always trying to talk me out of my 913 pump for some reason???
Chris

ON EDIT!! I meant "mild" compared to his old truck...not that it's lacking for power or anything
