EZ+RV 275's.....Surge/Miss....

Has anyone had a serge/miss problem after adding RV 275's to their EZ?

The injectors came out of Big Blues truck, and he was having no problems. So he says..... (Only kidding Tyler....0nly kidding!) I found two lines that were ever so slightly loose and have tightened them. New o-rings and washers on the install.
A couple of our resident diesel experts have given me hints about washer problems, o-ring problems, loose lines, etc, of which we have not completed the check out.

I know we'll find the problem, but I was just wondering if anyone else has had the same thing happen.......

I have an EZ and 275 injectors and had a problem like that several times. My problem occured when I was cruizing and let off of the throttle slightly and the engine bucked or shuddered. The only way I found to fix the problem was to shut the engine off for several seconds, then re-start it.

Thanks for the come back......

I'm sorry, but I didn't make myself clear......

The problem only occures under hard acceleration. In any gear, it takes off great, but has the problem when it gets close to de-fueling (around 2500 rpm). At highway speed, 65/70, it runs great, but will start the surge/miss shortly after acceleration starts. Boost runs up to about 25 and the FASS is pumping 14 psi at WOT.

Try disconnecting the EZ and see if it goes away. Could be the 275's amplified another problem. Just a guess.

That has been proposed, and I will try that tomorrow. Boy, I HATE disconnecting that little sucker.

25psi of boost sounds kinda low. With just my Van Aaken I can get about 30. With just the jammer 3's I hit 32, then the wastegate opens. (have it set at that) Have you checked your air filter recently? Is your FP gauge after your fuel filter? It just seems like you should be getting more boost.

The boost does seem low, but I have checked for leaks and put a new boost elbow on it and it stays about the same. I recently put one of the new Quad Air boxes on (see gallery), but I was getting the same boost with the stock box with a 3" hole in the bottom. The FP gage is post filter.

The surge is "normal" if you want to call it that. I run an EZ and DD2's and it does it in any gear when the outside temp is on the colder side. I can turn my EZ off on the fly and the surge will go away when running on injectors only.

From what I have found out, it has to do with the timing of the EZ itself. When really getting on the throttle and experiencing the surge, I can turn off the EZ and it immediately goes away.

I put my combination on my truck about a month after I bought it and it has always done it since then. Making your EZ switchable makes a big difference because when it is cold out, you can pull the timing out and experience no surge.

Your boost does seem low. Just running the EZ only will give me 30 psi, add in the DD2's and I can easily get 36 psi of boost.

Good info Homestead.....

How did you go about putting a switch on the EZ?

Any ideas on the low boost?

Lets get back to stretching Tylers neck a little. That would no doubt make the surge a bit more easy to overlook.

LOL

Speaking of Tyler....he was running a Comp box and didn't have the problem. Is the EZ that much different?
