Ez and head gaskets
I just read a post over on tdr that scared the crap outa me sais a ez edge advances the timing to much on eth trucks and causes head gaskets to blow and engines to melt down ,if you have injecters its even worse ,Has anyone had thiis trouble? I just bought my 2001 eth and have a ez settin here to put in but now Im kinda scared What do you all think?

Go ahead and put the it on. I've never seen anyone lose a head gasket running just an EZ. Its the high boost levels that usually get 'em. 45 psi is generally the accepted limit on a ETH with a stock head gasket. An EZ alone probably won't get you over 30 psi.

Hello
As per my sig. I have a similar truck. I have been running a EZ edge for about 3 years now, also about 2 years ago I installed DDII on her as well.
I use my truck to pull a 5er and from time to time a goose neck trailer.
I have not had any head gasket problems.
I did have to replace the clutch soon after putting in the EZ box, I called Peter at South Bend and he took good care of me.
Hope this helps.
See Ya

I wouldn't worry about an EZ blowing your head gasket. That would be a one in a million deal. If it blows with an EZ, that means it would have blown before to long anyways. You have a 1 in a 1,000,000,000,000 chance of it blowing. Hook that sucker up and let her rip.

I read the same thing over there. If you read it a little closer, you will see that the engine was recently washed and he said when he did that the pyro would read about 200* low until it dried and it took a while. Then he said he was pulling and maintaining about 1300* on the pyro. He was also running a little higher boost than what he normaly ran. From what I read, there isn't a lot of problems with "normal" use. It seems that there was also an injector "issue" too. The injectors were sent back to the mfg to see if there was a problem and he recieved all new injectors back. There was something about the popoff that wasn't right. It all sounds to me like it was operator error to some extent. It also seems to be a combination of things that caused it.

The post also said the engine was wore more than normal because of the timing isue is there anything to this? I timed my 95 to 16 dagrees never had a problem how much does the ez advance the timing? so how would the 16 degrees on my 95 compare to my 01 eth with a ez ? I love my truck 6 speed is great for towing but I wish I could get the 6 speed in a non eth engine

I agree with JBODY. It is easy to get high EGTs on my ETH and an Edge EZ is the only performance modification.
We are hearing about the folks who have had problems. How many of you have an ETH with an EZ and have NOT had any problems?
Additionally, how many of you have an ETH with an EZ and 275RV injectors? Have you had no problems, needed a new clutch or had other problems?
I just purchased 275 injectors and am nervous about installing them. I don't want to replace the clutch. I pull a 10K 5th wheel trailer and a 12K (loaded) horse trailer. I have always been careful and kind to my clutch and don't want to have that expense right now.
Thanks, Steve

Im not worried about the clutch as I can replace it but I am worrid about the wear on engine with the advanced timeing of the ez edge plus injecters Has anyone tried the 500 doller box blue chip has im thinking of trying that will it add the advertized horsepower on top of injecters on the eth model?

Don't worry about wear on the engine. Instead of going 500K between rebuilds, your looking at 499.99999K before a rebuild. These engines can handle it. If I were you, I'd just do the injectors. The HO's respond much better to injectors than they do a box.
