Question Expected life from one of DTTs auto?

Hey guys I'm on the fence about whos auto to $pend money on or if I should swap over to stick. DTT are like 20min away and do belive the build a great product as does many of the other guys but I'm still having a issue with laying out 6k on a auto trans. I would feel better if their warrenty was better but? DTT offers 2 years unlimited mileage and the other local shop PDR only offers 1 year or 20k both are close in money and for me driving less than 10k kms per year that scares me. I think for the $6k I could convert to a 6 speed and killer clutch and belive it would offer a virtual lifetime off service. I HATE spending $$ twice on the same thing and really worry about a auto failing after so few miles behind a 4-500hp twin turbo Cummins. This truck is my daily diver and one thing I cant live with is it not doing its job and failing (this is why I dumped the 24v) Did I mention I hate spending the same money twice I would like to hear from members that have purchased DTT trans for use with comparable HP and see what type of mileage and servive they have gone prior the needing work.
Any info would help as as you can see I just dont know what to do

I don't think anyone's ever broken a DTT or wore one out. That's why I'm going with them. Even Jim Fulmer with 873hp isn't hurting his.

I'm not that mechanically inclined but since you're so close to DTT I'd go with them. I'm 350 miles from my installer(Fred Swanson) and have complete confidence in my tranny unlike my lift pump and vp 44. The cost of conversion would far exceed the cost of the DTT upgrade. You might consider selling yours and buying a stock manual.

Go for the DTT. Anything can be broken if subjected to enough abuse. I put over 60000 miles and 600 1/4 mile passes in two years. This was at a power level of between 455hp to 510hp.

You gotta go with DTT. You're so close!!! It's hard to part with that kind of money. Trust me.. I know what you're going through. I've done a lot of reading and research and I just made my appointment with DTT for the end of next month.

I'm not looking forward to shelling out 5-6K but I'm sure looking forward to my new tranny.

Ask another question too... "How much will this transmission cost to rebuild in 2-3 years?"

The typical answer I got was $700, including labor.

brandon.

Is this with any other goodies to the "base" DTT other than all three billet's?

A lock up controller is about the only option I believe except for a couple of specialty billet pieces.

Olratlr, I'm doing it this summer. Ya baby.

WELP...you can ware them out...i know a guy that did it 2 times....but he had twins...with a leaky WG and took him over a min to spool up the turbos........(Yeah...more $$$ than Brains!!!!). This inturn over heated the Trans and blew it up....2 twice. SO you can hurt them if you want too....but use your head...and it will give you MANY years of awesome service.....i drove RJohnsons for a few days......MAN........that thing put the power down......BTW....where is that old man at...i though he would be all over this thread like flies on poop.............

I'm at 70,000 on my DTT, with racing and weekly hauling at gross weight +.

I added Billet shafts a few months ago...and had them look through everything while in there. Based on the lack of wear and tear I saw... I think a full DTT tranny is good for at least 200,000 -300,000 miles... with a good PM schedule.

Old man. Either RJ didn't read this or is not prone to retaliation.

I just put down 2000$ on the parts for the DTT build-up. I didnt go with the billet intermediate or output shafts but Im planning on staying under 500hp so I hope thats a safe bet.
In my case the DTT installer is about 20mi from my home so it was a no-brainer on deciding which vendor to go with.
