Exhaust manifolds: ATS vs HTT..

OK, fellas--

Anyone have any horror stories or relevant praises for either one?

I can't really tell anything from the pics, and the designs are basically the same.

The availability of the T4 flange on the ATS is a big plus, though-- I'm consider a turbo with that kind of inlet. Any real negatives to the T4 inlet? Seems to me it might hurt spoolup a bit.... But it would bolt right to a Pro52 or a GT40 or GT42 Garrett..

I'd prefer the manifold that is the heavier of the two, if there is any weight difference...

Thanks.

Justin

I never seen an htt manifold, but my ats one is beefy. Its gotta be twice as thick if not more and twice as heavey if not more than the stocker.

I would also like a comparison between the two. One of my concerns is with say a three piece is the possibility of them leaking Ex.Gas somewhat out the joints. I have heard of guys and recently read a post on here about some guy having that issue and that it never sealed right from the day he received it. Surely that subject was addressed in the Design and Development of the piece. Hopefully that is a rare occurrence and is not a issue.
Although you really didn't have to worry about this with the one piece Cummins used on there unless it cracked.
Again I also would also like to hear of those that could give some factual info on the ATS - HTT comparison.

I have a Joe Hellman built ATS with a t4 flange...I think it does affect spoolup a bit, but judging from my EGT's, it flows good!

If you're leaning towards a charger that has a T4 foot, go with the big foot flange ATS!
IMHO,
Chris

The bigger inlet is onlt advertised as an option on the ATS.

As for being made by BD, I highly doubt that. For the longest time, the ONLY manifold you could buy was made by the old ATS Turbo (since bought out by ATS diesel-- note the different ATS logos on the manifolds vs those on the turbos).

I supposed if a guy was concerned about leakage, you could just TIG a bead around the expansion joints....

Had my ATS on for two years, never any leaks from it. When I bought mine, the word was HTT were already drilled/tapped for pyro and TIP gauge, but thats not hard to fix on the ATS.

I wouldn't pick a manifold over another based on drilled/tapped holes. I can see how others might prefer that, though...

My ATS is a nice looking unit, it's been on for about 12k and the paint still looks new, it's a pretty heavy casting and a good tight fit at the joints with no leaks, all we did was clean up the opening a bit...it's a good product IMHO

I like mine easy install with no leaks. If I go with bigger turbo someday will my manifold not work? I bought the standard ats manifold. What is a t4 flange?

It depends on the turbo. If you buy a turbo that's "designed" for our engines, then it will bolt right on to the original manifold (which is a "divided T3 inlet").

But if you want to use a larger turbo that hasn't been designed for these engines, it might have a bigger "T4 divided" inlet.

The bigger manifold outlet is designed to allow you to use these "T4" inlet turbos without having to use an adapter of some kind.

After seeing and installing both Htt and ATS the ATS is a bit beefier in some areas, the HTT has bigger cuts machined out for the heads of the bolts(making the wall thickness less) a slight advantage maybe for ease of install.

I have had 3 ATS manifolds now but have not tried a Htt
I would buy another ATS if I ever need another one, my biggest beef with them a few years back was they came un-assembled and it was a hassle to have to heat them up in the oven and all that crap to assemble them but my last 2 came assembled so....all is good. They have a lot of meat around the ports for gasket matching and the material they use cuts easy with a carbide cutter and a die grinder. Get a set of the MLS gaskets and you will be set for good. I found using Allen head cap screws with lock washers the mounting bolt of choice but...? Just my $.02
