Which Exhaust to buy
#2
I bought one of the cheaper 4" turbo-back aluminized systems ($350) with a straight through glasspack muffler and am very happy with it. Sounds great, keeps egt's down a bit too. It came with all the hangers and was a fairly easy install. I know that the stainless systems look better and may last longer, but they are also more $spensey$, so...

i bought mine from riprook at www.sourceautomotive.biz . cant recall what i paid exactly, but was under 400 (way under). i dont need stainless steel though either, being here in california and all (**** desert). unless you live where they salt the roads on a regular basis, you dont need stainless unless you want the looks.

Just bought a complete turbo back from Jegs, $299. plus $15. handling, and they have free shipping in the lower 48. It fit perfect and sounds great, took longer to remove old exhaust than to install new one. The muffler is a straight thru directional type 4inch, enough to take the edge off the sound........Forgot to mention this is an aluminized exhaust, looks good too..........

This looks like the best deal I've found so far...

This is a SS system ($400), but they have the mild steel version for $300. I need the SS because of the salt on the roads and I live next to the ocean. I've patched my factory system for the last time.
If anyone knows of a better / cheaper SS exhaust system, please post it!

I just got off the phone with DPPI. For a T-304 system for my 1997 CTD, they qouted $780. I tried to see if they would price match since I'd rather give them the business being an advertiser here... no go and $380 is a LOT more for me to spend to be a nice guy.
I then called RPM Outlet to see if they have their $400 T-304 system in stock for my 97 and I was told they only make this system for the 98 and newer models.
What are the diffences between the 97 and 98 exhaust system? Is the turbo mounted differently on the 24v than on my 12v? Does anyone know if there are any reasons why I couldn't use this system on my 97?

I noticed on the RPM site they quote
18+ HP and 30+ Torque gain for the aluminized 4" pipe
and
25+ HP and 45+ Torque gain for the SS 4" pipe.
Is this just marketing or is there a reason for the difference?

Javamann,
The 18/30# you quoted is for the 4" downpipe only. Both systems they claim are worth 25/45. Divide those numbers by 2 or 3 and you may have a real number.
What I do find interesting is:
A) they show a 3 1/2" down pipe on the SS and a 4" down pipe on the mild steel. ???
B) they show the part # on mild steel system covering 94-02 models, yet the SS system only covers 98-01. What gives???

I just had a 4" SS system, from the turbo back, installed last weekend. It's a 304 SS system with a 1 into two muffler( ) and duals out the back. Passenger side exits in the stock location and the drivers side mirrors it.
This is my first mod on my 01 3500 4x4 CTD. Not bad in the cab but loud out back!!
