exhaust brakes
Looking at buying an exhaust brake. Just looking for some input on how effective they really are. Opinions on the best model would be welcome. My normal residence is in the NW so there are lots of mountains.

I just put a PAC brake on mine. I have only one word for you AWSOME!!! Now, I put a few other mods together with mine since I have the 48RE but I tell you what; I only towed my new 5vr once without it and I'll never tow anything big again with an EB
Sorry to get so excited, but I love my EB

I put a pacbrake PRXB on in june, and i would never go back, went from washington to yellowstone and back, pulling 10k #s without touching the brakes, even use it in town.

An exhaust brake no matter what brand is one of the best mods you can do to your truck. It is money well spent!
I have a BD brake and have zero problems other than it sticking once. Minor problem once and has never done it since.

I've got the factory Jacobs Brake and it works PREFECT! My brake shoes have never been changed and I've got 70% of my brake shoes left for +71K Miles!
Great for morning warm ups. It will warm up a rig quickly in the morning!
If you got to idle for extended period you can flip on the jake and hold your pyro temps up to about 400-450*F!!
Only downside is beware of icy roads... The jake can lock up your tires! In 2WD or 4WD modes! Been there and done that!

us gear Decelerator is a 4" wastegated inline brake, does not require changing valve springs (if you have a 12v, 24v already has 60# springs) it works really good too and if you plan on twins or a bigger single charger a in line turbo is a better option

My only regret is that I didn't get an inline brake rather than one that bolts up to the turbo. It has foiled any plans I might have for running many different types of turbos because I would have to buy an inline brake and scrap the BD.
Buy an inline even if you don't plan on changing turbos, never know if your plans could change.

Plan your mods , if your not going over 450-500 HP then look for a 4" EB to go with 4" exhaust , I've read some brands are better at lower RPMs , I agree that an iline might be good for future mods.

Artman,
Yes you can but you will need to have some sort of TC lockup smart controller or a mystery switch. I did the mystery switch (okie rigged....GIT R DON! ) way. It works great but will throw a code on a Cali. Truck. Theres great info on install of the switch on the TST website (dont know off top of head). You MUST be carefull with the switch though, it will KEEP it in 3rd (od off) or 4th (od on) if ur at 50mph or more. not very good for the tranny. the smart controllers are sold by most big tranny co's and do it all for you and u can slow down to 18 mph.
