Excess fuel before ?

Ok, This started happening (or being very noticeable) after my 3kgsk install. I have checked the governor arm, it meets the plate where it should.

When I bring it up from idle slowly, I can do so up to about 1200 rpm. After 1200 rpm even if I just barely push the throttle the rpm will shoot up to around 1800 rpm. If i let off the throttle, rpm will drop back to 1200. I can get it to stablize anywhere inbetween there.

Also, if I'm driving at lower than about 1400 rpm and I give it 7/8 throttle or more, the motor "bogs", well it doesnt really bog but it doesnt go any faster. it spews smoke and EGT shoot to 1200 for about a second, then it builds boost and takes off.

Its kinda annoying having that much lag as you might immagine. Anythoughts on what might cause this?

I dont think its much to worry about. My truck does the exact same thing. After 1200rpm it just shoots up to 1800 on its own. My cousins does the exact same thing. I cant explain why it does it but it does. I dont think its much to be worried about.

i dont think the timing has slipped, I set it to 16.5 a few months ago. When i did that change I could hear a noticable sound change in the pump, that sound is still the same.

I'm not worried about the rpm shooing up with no load. what i am worrined (not worried but dissapointed) with is the fact when i stop on it to get out of the way, nothing hapens but a ton of smoke for a few seconds. No acceleration nothing. once it gets over its little hissy fit it takes off just like it should.

your gsk springs are too tight loosen them up a turn or 2. mine does the same thing but i only use the truck for pulling so i'm trying to get all the rpm's i can. it takes some skill to drive mine on the road with a dd clutch, when i try to engage the clutch real easy it just wants to take off, it's not very fun when trying to drive in town

Could it be turbo lag?

I saw in your sig you have a 18cm housing on the stock HX, I think that is where all your lag is coming from.

I'm sure that amplifies the effect but its a stock turbo and with all the fuel that seems to be comming out of the stacks that thing should lite instantly. Plus even with turbo lag you still accelerate, the way my truck is acting it almost slows down when i put my foot to even 3/4 throttle.

Maybe your just putting so much fuel in there that its almost putting out the fire? Could you back off the AFC screw and see what happens? Maybe get it to put out less smoke? I mean if its smoking like you say it is then your getting fuel, if there's fuel it should spin the turbo and give you air, thats all you need its just getting the right amounts of each at the right time. Maybe you have a intake leak somewhere?

All good points....I had the starwheel all the way forward, but i backed it off when i put the GSK in. I'll try backing the springs out a click at a time. My calipers told me they were in the right depth, but ill give it a shot....

thanks

I am Teddy Bears cousin. Mine does the same thing, nothing to worry about. As for the smoke and lag..... Well; diesels just have lag, and smoke comes with it if you have much fuel at all. It is something you will learn to drive around. Wait till you get a tight torque converter in there, and then you will know the meaning of lag. It may help a little if you put your starwheel a lot of the way back, and slide the AFC housing all the way back. It will at least get rid of some of the smoke. Did it not have lag/smoke before the governor spring kit, or what? There is no reason the governor sping kit should make you have more lag, or even more smoke for that matter. Your truck is just acting normal for a diesel if you ask me.

Eric,
There is a "tighter" TC in there, its a Goerend tripple disc but its not super tight as i live in the hills. I know what lag is...this "lag" is like haveing a s400 as the only charger....its not normal. I'll try the AFC adjustment and the GSK adjust and see how it goes.

Good luck; but mine has horrible lag from a dead stop too. Running along at 1700+ in 3rd or overdrive, and it spools pretty quick, but down low it lays out a pretty long cloud before it spools. Let us know if you have any luck.
